Coleen Nolan, 56, has opened up about her close friend and Loose Women co-star Ruth Langsford, 61, being demoted from This Morning. Ruth and her husband Eamonn Holmes, 61, were demoted from the Friday slot late last year.

Yeah, it was horrendous.

Ruth and her husband were replaced by Alison Hammond and Dermot O’Leary.

They do, however, return to cover for holidays, and were reassured at the time that they’d still be “very much part of the family”.

Speaking to OK! Magazine, Coleen expressed how it felt at the time when Ruth lost her Friday job.

She said: “Yeah, it was horrendous.

“There’s loads I could say about the politics that goes on in our industry.

“I just want to say that decision doesn’t make sense!”

She added: “I think we’re in an industry where age and looks come into play.”

Ruth broke her silence at the time, releasing a statement shortly after ITV confirmed the news.

She wrote: “It’s a changing of the guard on Fridays from January.

“We hope you make Alison and Dermot as welcome as you’ve made us over the years.

“Have a Ball you two!”

She added: “It’s not Goodbye from us, it’s simply Au Revoir until the next half term.”

Ruth has presented on Loose Women since 2013, becoming a regular face on the show.

In 1996, she began dating Eamonn Holmes, though the relationship was kept quiet for a period out of respect for Eamonn’s first wife Gabrielle, whom he was separated from at the time.

In 2002, Ruth gave birth to their son, Jack Alexandra Holmes.

They were married on June 26, 2011 in a star-studded ceremony in Hampshire.

Eamoon has three children from his previous marriage named Declan, Rebecca and Niall.

He separated from Gabrielle in 1994, due to Eamonn’s father’s death and his journalism career taking a toll on their marriage.

Viewers were upset as Alison and Dermot announced they would be presenting This Morning in the October half term, something Eamonn and Ruth would usually do.

RyanGTweetsTV said: “Why don’t we have Eamonn and Ruth today? I miss them during half term #ThisMorning.”
