British reality star Spencer Matthews hid in the vault of a luxury watch shop in London on Tuesday after robbers raided the store.
Taking to social media, Matthews, 30, who previously starred in the E4 series “Made in Chelsea,” recounted the ordeal on his Instagram story, revealing he took cover in the lower level of The Hour House in London’s Marylebone neighborhood.
“I was in there picking up this vintage piece that I’ve been waiting for, for ages and these guys drive a scooter through the glass and start battering the shop with hammers, with huge hammers, wearing helmets,” Matthews recalled according to People.
“We’re in the back of the shop looking at them, sprint downstairs [and] hide in the vault until all the noise passes,” he added.
Matthews, whose older brother James wed Pippa Middleton in May 2017, said he was shocked to find the store “just battered” in the aftermath, with “all the watches gone.”
On Tuesday evening, the UK’s Metropolitan police confirmed that three arrests had been made following the incident.
“Police were called at 10:32 hrs on Tuesday, 28 May following reports that men armed with weapons drove to the premises on mopeds and smashed a window before stealing goods and fleeing,” the authorities noted, adding officers attended the scene, as well as “specialist firearms colleagues.”
“Three men have been arrested on suspicion of armed robbery and remain in custody at a north London police station,” the release continued, also noting “a member of the public, aged in his 30s, was treated for a minor injury; this has been assessed as non-life threatening or life-changing.”
As for the prized piece Matthews coveted, a 1991 Rolex Daytona Zenith, it appears being in the right place at the wrong time worked out in his favor.
“Amongst all the rubble and all the glass and stuff there’s one watch in the entire shop and it’s mine. Now, if that’s not luck, I don’t know what is,” Matthews said.
Matthews, who shares an 8-month-old son, Theodore, with wife Vogue Williams, later told the media that he would “think twice” before visiting the store with his child again.
“London in particular is dangerous at the moment,” Matthews stated, per BBC.
