Sydney Sweeney Opens Up About Filming Nude Scenes on Euphoria

While filming nude moments and sex scenes for TV and movies may appear to be daunting, Sydney Sweeney is challenging our perceptions of what it takes and how it feels to bare it all for creativity’s sake.

In a conversation with Yellowjackets star Christina Ricci for Variety’s “Actors on Actors” series presented by Apple TV+, Syd opened up about her character on Euphoria, Cassie.

Speaking of the transformation she underwent in season two, Sydney says that “Cassie is dealing with trying to love herself in a moment where she does not love herself, and she’s looking for that from other people. And it’s so hard when you don’t know who you are.”

When it comes to Cassie’s new love interest, Nate, Sydney says her character uncovered a new personality trait. “There is a manipulative side of Cassie — and I think she’s found that through Nate. She’s starting to realize that she can control him with fear, and she’s never had that aspect before because she’s always been the one that’s been fearful.”

As for how Cassie interacts with others and expresses love, the actor says, “She doesn’t know how to communicate without showing her body. That is a form of communication for her, and she was never taught that you did not need that.”

Sydney, who has previously spoken out about how open showrunner Sam Levinson was to cut out what she felt were unnecessary nude moments during Euphoria’s sophomore season says that she “weirdly become very confident” with her body through portraying Cassie. “It’s a very safe environment. I’m very fortunate that I am coming up during a time where there is so much thought in this process, and we now have intimacy coordinators,” she continues.

The 24-year-old also explained the role of an intimacy coordinator after Christina said she’d never worked with one. “They bring in tools,” Sydney said, “And we choreograph the whole thing.”

“Sometimes there’s yoga mats that you can put in between each other,” she continued. “Or there’s like pads that you can put or yoga blocks; there’s some weird stuff. And even if you have agreed to something, they ask you on the spot on the day, ‘Did you change your mind? Because you can.’ It’s really nice. I’ve never felt uncomfortable.”

We love to see an inclusive and healthy filming environment!
