Tributes pour in as Ring of Honor Wrestler Jay Briscoe dies age 38

Jay Briscore, known for wrestling alongside his younger brother Mark Briscoe for professional wrestling company Ring of Honor, has passed away at the age of 38.

His death was announced by the organisation's CEO Tony Khan, who shared the tragic news on Twitter. His statement reads: "Sadly, Jamin Pugh has passed away. Known to fans as Jay Briscoe, he was a star in ROH for over 20 years, from the first show until today.

"Jay and his brother Mark dominated ROH, reigning as champions to this day. We'll do whatever we can to support his family. Rest In Peace Jamin."

A tweet from the Ring of Honor official account, reads: "It is with a heavy heart that we mourn the tragic passing of Jamin Pugh, known to wrestling fans around the world as Jay Briscoe. Our thoughts are with his family, his friends, and his fans."

Fans and fellow wrestlers were quick to share tributes to Jamin, with one writing: "Quality man that we lost. So very heartbreaking. My deepest condolences to all his loved ones."

Another added: "In the short time that I’ve known of the Briscoes, I can say without a doubt, they are one of the greats, and an absolutely phenomenal team. Gutwrenching loss for the wrestling world. Rest easy Jay Briscoe."

And a third wrote: "Absolutely heartbreaking. Not even 40 years old but accomplished so much throughout a career spanning over 2 decades. Jay Briscoe was an icon. As well respected as they come. He will truly be missed."

Wrestling publication PW Insider have reported that the beloved wrestler passed away after being involved in a car accident.

The outlet then added: "although obviously details are very very preliminary as of this writing."

Local news outlet WMDT, which covers Laurel community and Sussex County in Delaware, where the wrestler lived, have reported on a crash that left two dead. The other individual's name has not yet been released.

Reporting on Jammin's passing, the publication adds: "The Laurel-community and Sussex County is mourning the loss of the iconic wrestler who lives in Laurel."

They have also revealed that Laurel School District announced via Facebook that all schools in the area will be closed on Wednesday following the tragic news, and will reopen on Thursday.

The tragedy comes just one year after the Briscoe Brothers were inducted into the Ring of Honor's Hall of Fame.
