Morris “B.B.” Dickerson, a founding member and bassist of War, has died at 71.
According to Billboard, B.B. Dickerson passed away peacefully at a Long Beach, California hospital on Friday, April 2 after a long, undisclosed illness.
Dickerson was born in 1949 in Torrance, California. He got his start on the bass guitar at the age of 12. Before founding War, Dickerson had performed in a group called The Creators along with his uncle Howard E. Scott.
He is known for hits including “Cisco Kid,” “Why Can’t We Be Friends,” “Slippin’ Into Darkness” and “Spill the Wine.” Dickerson was also a vocalist for War, including on the band’s hit song “The World Is a Ghetto.”
Dickerson is survived by his mother, his uncle and his children.
