George Jones‘ widow Nancy Jones says she hates a new mural that was recently unveiled in Nashville depicting the legendary country music star riding a lawnmower to a liquor store.
Nancy Jones expressed her displeasure with the new mural, painted by Nashville artist Shawn Catz, calling it “plumb ugly.”
“Have you seen that thing?? It is plumb ugly! It doesn’t look anything like George. It is stupid, hideous, self-serving, NOT accurate and certainly not sanctioned by the estate or the museum,” Jones said in a statement to FOX 17 News.
“George was a great writer, a great singer and a proper mural should be about him and his music not a mischaracterization of him on a lawnmower,” she added.
Inspiration for the mural came from a story that George Jones told in his autobiography, titled I Lived To Tell It All.
