'BH90210' Casts Vanessa Lachey in a Fictional Role

The new Beverly Hills, 90210 reboot won’t hit the small screen until August 7, so we still have a few months to try to figure out how this spinoff is going to play out. The latest development that could provide some context clues? Per TVInsider, Vanessa Lachey has joined the BH90210 cast. If you’re slightly perplexed, you aren’t alone. After all, isn’t the spinoff series about the OG stars? More on that in a minute, but chew on this: Nick Lachey’s real-life wife will be playing Jason Priestley’s fictional one.

Lachey took to Twitter on Friday to gush about her new gig, sharing a video featuring the returning cast members from the old school series. As the unmistakable theme song plays, a cut-out of Lachey hilariously pops up from behind the gang. “My NEW JOB has a pretty iconic zip code!!! I am still pinching myself that I get to join this incredible cast & play Jason Priestley’s wife. This show was EVERYTHING to me in the ‘90s! Now excuse me while I continue doing my happy dance while rockin’ out to this song!!!” Lachey captioned the cheeky post.

As for what we know so far about Lachey’s character aside from her onscreen spouse, Fox confirms that she’ll play a high-powered publicist named Camille “who is balancing her demanding career with the hopes of starting a family.”

The network also notes that Priestley is, in fact, playing himself. Clearly, this gets a bit confusing since Priestley has a real-life wife: makeup artist Naomi Lowde-Priestley. But he isn’t the only one who is getting the faux-wife TV treatment — on Thursday, news broke that La La Anthony will be playing Shay, a hip-hop star married to Brian Austin Green. Like Priestley, Green will be playing himself. He is married in real life to Megan Fox. This all sort of makes sense if you consider that Fox is describing BH90210 as a serialized drama inspired by the real lives and relationships of Priestley, Green, Shannen Doherty, Jennie Garth, Ian Ziering, Tori Spelling and Gabrielle Carteris.

But, does this mean we can expect more casting announcements as the summer wears on? Will Spelling have a non-Dean McDermott husband onscreen? Will Jennie Garth still be a mom-of-three? Questions abound. For now, though, we’ll simply have to stay tuned.
