Cypress Hill confirm The Simpsons joke made 27 years ago will become a reality

The Simpsons has gained a reputation over the years for having a freaky habit of predicting real-life events.

It appears the animated sitcom has struck gold once again, after making a joke about hip hop group Cypress Hill in an episode that aired in 1996.

In the 27-year-old episode, which was titled Homerpalooza and released during the seventh season of the show, Homer Simpson goes on a journey of music discovery after realising that kids no longer think of classic rock as a cool genre.

Through a chaotic turn of events, Homer ends up partying with several well-known music stars, including Cypress Hill, Sonic Youth and The Smashing Pumpkins.

In one scene, a man enters a room to announce that find out who ordered the London Symphony Orchestra, explaining that they may have done so ‘possibly while high’, before singling out Cypress Hill.

The group huddle together, with one of them questioning: ‘Hey man, did we order an orchestra?’, as another whispers: ‘What’s up with this orchestra man?’

One of them says: ‘We’ve got to do something,’ before turning to the orchestra and asking them if they know how to play their chart-topping single Insane in the Brain, which was released in 1993.

A posh violinist replies: ‘We mostly know classical, but we could give it a shot.’

As the song plays with the orchestra playing their instruments in the background, Marge Simpson remarks: ‘Now this I like.’

The clip from the episode was shared by a Simpsons fan page on Instagram, prompting several fans to ask why the collaboration hasn’t happened yet in real life.

Cypress Hill then showed up in the comment section to reveal that the cogs are actually in motion to make it a reality.

‘July in Denver with the Colorado symphony we are playing “Black Sunday” in its entirety to celebrate the 30 yr anniversary. After that we plan to make the gig with the London Symphony a reality. Salute to “The Simpson’s” for birthing the idea,’ they wrote.

Fans were ecstatic over the confirmation that yet another Simpsons prediction had come true.

‘Please say this will be an eventual tour! We need this!!’ one person requested, while another suggested: ‘Yall gotta huddle up and whisper at the start of the show.’

‘God that’s awesome,’ someone else added, with another stating: ‘The Simpsons predicting the future yet again.’

Cypress Hill have been active since 1988, becoming the first hip hop group to gain a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2019.

They’ve been nominated for three Grammys in their time, winning a Billboard Music Award for their single The Phuncky Feel One in 1992.

The Simpsons is available to watch on Disney Plus in the UK.
