The release date of Heartstopper season 2 is almost here, and fans are yearning to find out what’s going to happen next for Charlie (Joe Locke) and Nick (Kit Connor) in their love story, as well as the other adorable members of their heartwarming gang.
While those who have read the webcomic series and graphic novel by Alice Oseman may have some inkling of the direction of the story, the writer and illustrator – who also wrote and created the TV series on Netflix – has teased a scene in an upcoming episode that’ll be completely new to book fans.
During a recent conversation with Metro.co.uk, Alice shared that they were ‘really excited’ to see the moment in question brought to life on screen, recalling how ‘beautifully performed’ it was by the actors.
The writer also hinted at how the second season will evolve from the first, as the world ‘gets bigger’ for the protagonists, who get up to ‘all kinds of mischief’ while they’re away from their parents on a highly-anticipated school trip to Paris.
Speaking of the scene that will be completely unfamiliar to those who have read their written Heartstopper works, Alice revealed: ‘I won’t spoil it, but there is a really beautiful scene at the end of episode three, which is not in the comics at all, and I was really excited to see that come to life.
‘It’s just a quiet scene where Nick and Charlie have a conversation, but it’s a kind of big turning point in their relationship and their understanding of each other, and it’s so beautifully performed by Kit and Joe. I’m really excited for people to see that because it will be a surprise. It’s not something that’s in the books. So, yes – can’t wait.’

By the time we reach season two, the characters at the centre of the story have matured and reached new stages of their friendships and romantic relationships… so what can viewers expect from the latest outing?
‘I think season two, the world just feels bigger for our protagonists,’ Alice shared.
‘We step outside of the little school environment, and as many people know, the teens will head off on a school trip to Paris – big city, the city of love. They’re kind of out of the prying eyes of parents and they can get up to all kinds of mischief.’
The creator of the Netflix show continued: ‘In terms of the relationships, Nick and Charlie, they decided that they’re boyfriends and now we really get to see them enjoying being in a relationship, which we didn’t see a lot of in season one, because it was like, “Oh no, does he like me? Does he not like me?” It’s so awkward and nervous.
‘In season two, they are solidly a couple and they get to really, really enjoy that. We see their relationship levelling up a little bit, and the same for the supporting characters as well.’
In the trailer for season two, Nick tells Charlie – who’s now his boyfriend – that he does want to come out publicly as bisexual, but is finding it ‘hard’ to ‘find the time’.
Charlie vows to protect his golden-retriever-energy beau, having personally experienced what it was like to be bullied when he was outed before he had the chance to come out on his own terms.
There is plenty of speculation over the relationship between Elle (Yasmin Finney) and Tao (William Gao), as fans wonder if the best friends could finally get together.
Meanwhile, it looks like Tara (Corinna Brown) and Darcy (Kizzy Edgell) might have some obstacles to face in their relationship, while the quietest member of the group Isaac (Tobie Donovan) goes on an illuminating journey of his own.
Heartstopper season 2 premieres on Thursday August 3 on Netflix.
