Is Michelle Obama Running for President in 2020? Here's What She Had to Say

Don’t expect this FLOTUS run for office any time soon. Michelle Obama responded to 2020 presidential run rumors, and it looks like the former First Lady of the United States doesn’t have any desire to become president — yet. For quite some time, Obama has been down-playing whispers of a potential run, and with the race for a Democratic nominee well underway, she is setting the record straight for what seems to be the last time.

In an interview with The National, Obama made it clear she had no plans to run for president in 2020. “A lot of people want you to run for president,” journalist Hilde Lysiak asked Obama in the interview. “Just between us, if you thought the country needed you and you thought you could really help our nation, is there even a one percent chance you’d consider running?” Obama then doled out her response.

“Just between us, and the readers of this magazine — there’s zero chance,” the former First Lady said. “There are so many ways to improve this country and build a better world, and I keep doing plenty of them, from working with young people to helping families lead healthier lives. But sitting behind the desk in the Oval Office will never be one of them. It’s just not for me.”

Obama has been incredibly busy since her time in the White House. She and husband, former President Barack Obama, lived in the famous home on Pennsylvania Avenue for eight years while her husband governed the country for two consecutive terms. The former First Lady has highlighted her experience in the White House in her autobiography, Becoming. Back in July, a YouGov poll cited the former First Lady as the world’s most admired woman. Now that her time in the White House is long over, Obama is setting her sights on serving her community and continuing to be an upstanding citizen.
