Road Trip star shares whether ITV show could return without Gino D'Acampo

Road Trip fans hearts were broken when it was revealed the ITV travel series would be no more after Gino D’Acampo quit.

The excitable This Morning chef, 46, blamed his departure on scheduling conflicts, drawing his adventures with Fred Sirieix, 51, and Gordon Ramsay, 56, to a prematue end.

Viewers love the bickering and chaos between the trio as they travelled around countries including the States and Greece, spawning iconic moments such as Gino stripping butt-naked to the horror of the First Dates star and Gordon.

So much so, it has begged the question: could Road Trip ever return to our screens, even without Gino?

We put that question to Fred, who spoke to Metro.co.uk ahead of the launch of his new BBC series Utimate Wedding Planner, which he judges alongside Dragon’s Den’s Sara Davies and Raj Somaiya.

‘I mean, the thing is, we couldn’t get the dates together, so we can’t we can’t do the show anymore, unfortunately. So yeah, that’s all I can say. And I have to say there’s nothing else to say,’ he replied.

When pressed if he would team up with Gordon for Road Trip à deux, Fred remained firm the show couldn’t exist with Gino.

He responded: ‘I mean, the question is not that. I mean, we couldn’t get, like I said to you, we couldn’t wait to get the dates together. And so we’re not doing Gino, Gordon and Fred anymore, because we’re not gonna get the dates.’

So that’s that, then. Let’s hope that availabality cropts up in the diaries so the band can get together again.

In the meantime, you can catch Fred giving his verdict on aspiring wedding planners, who are given the reigns at the ceremonies of six brave couples, in Ultmate Wedding Planner, alongside his new co-stars.

Fred hinted he was a tough judge, saying that he is on the hunt for ‘excellence and total professionalism.’

‘It’s a profession and I know what it takes as I’ve been doing this for thirty years at the highest level and I am really only looking for the best. I’m not here to take prisoners,’ he explained.

As for Sara and Raj? Fred was full of praise and described the pair of them as ‘very professional’ and with ‘clear vision.’

He said: ‘We were very clear about what our role was: we are judges, we are here to help and support the competitors, but at the end of the day, they have to do the competition themselves. And then we have to judge them on on the job done.’

But it wasn’t all work and no play with Fred revealing they let off steam once the cameras stopped rolling.

‘We had a lot of fun, lots of meals and lots of gin and tonics and bottles of wine. It was fun, we really had a good time,’ he said.

Gordon, Gino & Fred: Road Trip is available to watch on ITVX. Ultimate Wedding Planner begins on Tuesday August 8 on BBC Two at 9pm.
