REGARDLESS of whether you own up to it or not, we all have a pretty clear idea of what we'd like our dream engagement ring to look like.
Unfortunately for one woman, her ex-fiance missed a trick when he tried his hand at designing this important piece of jewellery and ended up with a ring that looked like a wad of "used chewing gum" instead.
Posting on the Facebook group That's It, I'm Wedding Shaming, the woman revealed that her ex had ordered the ring on Etsy and asked for the green prehnite crystal to be "carved into a rose".
And just to make the design extra, erm, unique, the groom also requested two blue topaz jewels be placed either side of the green flower.
Although the couple never did make it down the aisle (for reasons other than the groom's questionable taste in jewellery), the group's 17,000 members claim the dodgy ring was the ultimate "dealbreaker".
One replied: "It kinda looks like a wad of dried gum."
Another added: "Fossilized dried gum!"
Meanwhile, others couldn't help but notice the ring's likeness to a throat lozenge.
"That looks like a nasty cough drop that came out of its wrapper and has been floating at the bottom of my purse since 2014," one user replied.
"It looks like a strepsil on a bit of wire," a fourth critic wrote. "Makes my throat sore just looking at it."
And to add insult to injury, others claimed the woman's ex was "anticipating a divorce" by his cheap choice of ring – despite the fact she left him.
Taking aim at the "cheapest looking tin setting in the world", one user joked: "Did he hate you?"
Another asked: "Is this why y'all broke up? Because it looks like a deal breaker."
Although we can't help but agree with the user who wrote: "Anyone who gives you a ring like that deserves to be an ex."
