EXCLUSIVE: André Saraiva Splashes Vivid Galaxy Print Across Mackage Staples

The ever-busy André Saraiva has graced countless walls, canvases and clothing with his signature illustrative designs and his latest endeavor feels as fresh as each of his previous projects. Luxury outerwear label Mackage has enlisted the France-based creative to elevate its signature silhouettes with his inimitable hand, yielding a three-piece capsule of genderless essentials.

“I couldn’t stop thinking about the universe that Mackage embodies and immediately thought of everything that makes up our galaxy – that was my inspiration,” André said in a statement. That other-worldy inspiration plays into a hoodie at the core of the partnership, an all-over printed layering piece laden with André’s signature Mr. A and a spacey motif. Accompanying the hoodie is a bomber jacket — finished with an interior galaxy print, Mr. A head on the rear and co-branding at the chest — and a leather cap realized with a matching graphic.

“Graffiti and clothes have always been very closely related,” André told HYPEBEAST. “For my first pieces of art I used to make t-shirts and draw my character on the back of my jackets. Clothing has always been a prime canvas for graffiti,” explaining that he was drawn to the Mackage partnership because of the brand’s “quality winter jacket[s].”

“As a brand, we absolutely love collaborating with those who want to make a statement,” Mackage co-chief creative officer and founder Eran Elfassy said in a statement. “André does that very thing and has brought an edge to a few of our iconic styles.” Elisa Dahan, his counterpart, continued: “Adapting the fit of our signature men’s bomber jacket while maintaining our aesthetic was key in making these styles genderless and contemporary.”

André’s graphic capsule collection goes live on Mackage’s site August 10.

Most recently, the artist partnered with Surface Project for special sneakers and even took center stage in Reigning Champ x ASICS’ latest lookbook.
