I turned my damaged, shedding hair into healthy long locks with 5 easy tips, my 'porosity' test is essential | The Sun

A BEAUTY enthusiast has shared the changes she made to her haircare routine to heal her damaged locks.

She was able to grow long and healthy tresses after doing a test that helped her understand the best products for her hair type.

Krishna (@lavish_krish) has racked up over 217,000 followers on TikTok, where she shares hair and beauty advice.

She took to the social media platform to explain how to transform thinning locks after being bombarded with questions about her glossy hair.

She made just five changes to her haircare routine to repair the damage.

Krishna said: “Number one and the most important is doing heatless curls.

“Number two is to find your hair porosity so you can find exactly which products will work better for your hair type.”

She demonstrated how to find hair porosity starting off by washing her hair and then once it was fully dry pulled out a single strand.

She cut it to three inches and placed it into a glass of water for five minutes.

She said: "The most important thing I tell anyone starting their haircare journey is to find their hair porosity.

"It's the same thing as knowing your skin type so you can buy products for your skin.

"You've got to know your hair porosity so you can buy products for your hair type."

The beauty enthusiast said those with low hair porosity will see the strand of hair floating on top of the water.

This type has closed hair cuticles, hair is unable to absorb moisture easily and products easily build up.

She said if the strand floats in the middle of the water you have medium hair porosity which is ideal because your hair will retain moisture well.

Lastly, if the strand sinks to the bottom of the glass you have high hair porosity. Your hair will absorb moisture easily but often looks dull and dry.

She added this hair type is likely to also tangle easily.

Krishna continued: “Number three is hair oils, build an oiling routine that you can do twice a week every single week before you wash your hair.

“I usually put my oils in at nighttime. I leave them in overnight and wash my hair in the morning.

“Number four is avoid any products with these ingredients – parabens, sulfates, phthalates, sodium chloride, and mineral oils.”

Krishna shared a selection of hair care products that she uses daily to keep her hair healthy.

Among them was Sol De Janeiro’s Brazilian Joia milky leave-in conditioner which costs $28 from Amazon and Color Wow Dream Coat supernatural spray which is $33 from Feel Unique.

She also uses Moroccan oil smoothing lotion for $36 from the brand’s website and SheaMoisture manuka honey and yogurt multi-action leave-in which is $12 from the SheaMoisture website.

She continued: “Number five and the last tip is to hydrate your hair every night using a leave-in conditioner and a lightweight oil.

“The oil is going to seal in all of the hydration from the leave-in conditioner. I then put my hair in a bun and I go to sleep.”

Krishna claimed her hair no longer breaks as much as before she started to follow the haircare regimen.

Over 135,000 people liked the video and it received hundreds of comments from people wanting more advice.

She reassured people that they could still use oil on their hair regardless of how greasy their locks get.

One person wrote: “I didn’t know about that test for porosity, thanks! Chose to cut my damaged hair very short and also used jojoba oil daily and it’s in great condition now.”
