A DOG trainer has shared some tips on how you can stop your pup from pulling on the lead.

Instagram user Southenddogtraining has shared some helpful tips for new puppy owners who might be struggling to train their playful pooch.


The short video shared on Instagram demonstrates some simple training tips you can use to help prevent your new puppy from pulling on the lead.

But as well as giving your four-legged friend some tasty treats to reward them for their behaviour, there is one very important rule that owners must follow for success.

The video starts by showing a cute little pup pulling on the lead, followed by the first instruction.

The first step shows how the trainer gets the puppy focused and under control, with the caption, "Get the pup's attention, without it you have nothing.

Once the puppy is focused, the dog trainer then starts to walk with the pup close on the lead, turning round after a few steps and repeating the action.

The instruction is to perform "simple turns" with the dog and "reward for being in the correct position."

The number one rule for this method to be successful is to "take your time" and "go slow".

The video continues, "Repeat over and over, don't be in a hurry to have perfect heel work."

Owners are reminded that puppies are easily distracted and to advised to "get the rewards in before the puppy loses interest".
