Kate Middleton wouldn’t let Prince George out ‘on a school night’ after he begged to go to Royal Variety Performance – The Sun

KATE Middleton dazzled last night as she attended the Royal Variety Performance on a “date night” with Prince William.

Absent from the star-studded occasion were her adorable three children, and Kate said she had told them they weren’t allowed out on a “school night”.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were pictured meeting the cast of Mary Poppins, who performed at the charity event last night.

Kate stunned in a lace floor-length black gown by Alexander McQueen and joked with the cast how her children had been desperate to attend the show.

The mum-of-three said that Prince George, six, Princess Charlotte, four, and one-year Prince Louis aren’t allowed out late on a school night.

Prince William told the cast how he "loves Mary Poppins" and Kate added how her kids would love the show, according to the Mirror.

This September, Charlotte joined older brother George at Thomas's Battersea school in South London.

Charlotte is now in reception, with Prince George in Year Three at the fee-paying school.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge upped the glamour stakes as the Royal couple were snapped in the royal box at the London Palladium Theatre.

This year, Rob Beckett and Romesh Ranganathan were the joint hosts of the show.

The comedy duo introduced the royal couple and joked that they were on a "date night" as the camera zoomed in on them laughing and giggling in the Royal Box – William nodding with mock seriousness.

The comedians asked whether they had paid the babysitter to stay "until 12 or 1" and joked: "It's always worth £20 for the extra hour."

Ranganathan said he also had three kids and guessed that William and Kate thought the same thing when they saw their three little faces running into their bedroom each morning: "Why did we do this?"

It's the third time Kate and Wills, both 37, have gone to the spectacular event after making appearances in 2014 and 2017.

The event is in aid of the Royal Variety Charity, formally known as The Entertainment Artistes' Benevolent Fund, of which The Queen is Patron.

The money raised from the show helps hundreds of entertainers throughout the UK who need help due to illness.

Last year, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry represented the Royal Family at the Royal Variety Performance which featured Britain's Got Talent's 2018 winner – Lost Voice Guy.

The cast of Mary Poppins performed alongside the likes of Lewis Capaldi, Robbie Williams and Mabel.
