Melania Trump vs Brigitte Macron style: Ladies dress similar at G7 – whose look cost more?

The G7 summit kicked off this weekend in Biarritz, France, with many of the world leaders, including US President Donald Trump, UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson, and French president Emmanuel Macron heading to the country. Donald was accompanied by his wife Melania Trump, as was Emmanuel who showed up with his wife Brigitte Macron. And both ladies certainly raised the style stakes as they joined their men at the organisation made up of the world’s seven largest so-called advanced economies: Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom and the United States.

Melania Trump vs Brigitte Macron style: Ladies dress similar at G7 – whose look cost more?

Melania looked stunning as she wore a pleated jersey dress by Gucci, which had silver chain detailing around the waist.

She teamed the gorgeous gown with a pair of silver Christian Loboutin heels, which added extra height to her modelesque frame.

Melania kept her make up and accessories to a minimum, wearing dark eyeshadow and a nude lip. She wore her hair down in a soft wave with her trademark middle part.

Brigitte looked equally stunning as she wore a structured dress by Louis Vuitton in a similar nude tone.

The 66-year-old completed the look with a pair of brown pointed-toe heels, and some silver rings.

The shift dress came just above her knee and showed off her gorgeous legs.

Brigitte kept her blonde locks down with her fringe swept across her face, and opted for natural make up.

But which First Lady spent more on her outfit?

Brigitte’s dress, which was custom made by the French fashion house, is thought to be worth around $3,000 or £2,443.

Louis Vuitton, headed up by Nicolas Ghesquière, is one of the First Lady’s go-tos, and the day before, she was pictured wearing another dress by the brand.

Meanwhile, Melania’s Gucci dress is currently retailing for $3,800, which is roughly £3,094.

It’s unknown who the designer of Brigitte’s shoes is, however, a pair of Christian Louboutin heels similar to those worn by Melania could set one back around £545, which means the US First Lady may have wracked up a slightly higher bill for her ensemble.

It comes after Melania arrived in France earlier in the day with her husband.

The US First Lady, 49, could be seen wearing a bold yellow dress, which divided fans.

Some mocked the large random print on the front of it, while others questioned if it gave a nod to the yellow vests worn by French protesters.

The day before, Melania appeared to pay homage to Gabrielle “Coco” Chanel, as she wore a Chanel blazer on her flight to the European country.

Brigitte Macron: Five facts about the French President’s wife

Family

Brigitte Trogneux, as she was born, is the youngest of six children and grew up in Amiens, France.

Her parents were owners of Chocolaterie Trogneux, which had been run by five generations of the family and is now run by Brigitte’s nephew.

Previous marriage

Before her marriage to the current French President, Brigitte was married to a banker, André-Louis Auzière.

The couple wed in June 1974 and had three children before finally divorcing in January 2006. She married Emmanuel in 2007.

Career

Brigitte is famed for being her husband’s secondary school teacher, but she has had a varied working life.

In 1982 she was a press secretary at the Nord-Pas-de-Calais Chamber of Commerce, moving in to teaching two years later.

First Lady attempt

In 2017, Emmanuel made an attempt to give his wife an official paid role in French administration, as First Lady.

This was dashed, however, after an online petition against the move gained 300,000 signatures. Her role has stayed unofficial, although as with previous President’s wives, she does have a small team of staff.

Louis Vuitton

The French luxury fashion house began a relationship with Brigitte in 2015, loaning her outfits for public appearances.

Speaking to business news magazine Challenges, her team confirmed: “Everything has been noted in a register and the loan outs have been systematically returned. And she only wears their outfits for public appearances.”
