Mum shares easy hack for de-fogging car headlights instantly using just two kitchen staples

A WOMAN has revealed how she manages to de-fog her car headlines instantly – and she doesn’t use any professional cleaning products.

Leonie, from Perth, simply combines toothpaste and baking powder to make a mix, and it leaves her car looking brand new.

She shared striking before and after photos to Facebook and explains how she rubs her homemade mixture on the headlights.

Leonie explained: “I fixed the headlights on my car using a mix of toothpaste and baking powder and good old fashioned elbow grease!

“It worked really well and the headlights came up a treat.”

Leonie said she uses a paper towel to apply the mixture and then rubs it in using her fingers.

Many people were very impressed at her genius, purse-friendly hack, and said they would try it out for themselves.

One person said: “Wow I need to do this on my Mini one is really bad, I might give this a go tomorrow.”

Another added: “Magic erasers work wonderfully too – my car detailer uses them and my car head lights come up brand new.”

Meanwhile, another commented: “Good to know, we always just buy new light covers.”

Headlights can become foggy over time if they are made from plastic instead of glass.

We previously shared how women have been taking to the Australian Facebook group Mums Who Clean to share their simple defogging method using toothpaste.

First, you rub the toothpaste on the headlights with a cloth, and then buff in a circular motion until the lights are sparkling.

Then, you rinse of the residue, and voila! It’s as simple as that.

One mum said that she doesn’t just use toothpaste for her car, but also uses it to tackle door paint scrapes and scratches.

She added: “This is why I never put commercial toothpaste in my mouth.

“I only use natural toothpastes and keep the chemical one in my cleaning kit.”

Another mum raved about how it took her just one minute to get her headlights looking brand new.

Other unusual products that mums praised for tackling headlights include WD40, insect repellent spray Aerogard and a Turtle Wax Headlight Restoration Kit, which costs under £10 from Amazon.

One mum said: “My pop – who's an ex car detailer – says bicarb and lemon. Make a paste, scrub it round, let it sit, then rinse.”

People share amazing before-and-after cleaning transformations – using a £1.50 denture whitener.

For more cleaning hacks, this woman used a Poundland spray to get rid of nasty mildew stains on her window sill in just four MINUTES.

And shoppers can't get enough of the 89p cleaning paste from Home Bargains that is a favourite with Mrs Hinch.
