Clothes made from recycled fabrics are in right now – but Selfridges has taken it one step further.
The department has teamed up with the Royal Mail for their latest range and created pieces out of old post bags.
Designed by Studio Alch, you can buy £445 jackets and £80 tote bags, made from the remnants of bags used by the postal service.
The pieces all include bits of the company’s logo as it was originally placed on the bags.
The jackets are red and green or you can buy a black version. There’s also a gilet without the sleeves for £400.
The tote bags come in two sizes – a small green one for £70, or a larger red one for £80.
The range also involves items designed by Labrum London and hoodies, t-shirts, hats, mugs and baubles made with the help of the team at Royal Mail.
But postal workers have been unimpressed with the range and poked fun on social media.
One said: ‘Omg!!! Royalmail collaboration with Selfridges has produced a jacket made out of old postal sacks, selling for £445!!!! If anyone’s interested, I can sell you my tatty old Royal Mail work boots to go with it for £1500 lmao.’
Another posted a video of someone wearing an old Royal Mail sack and joked: ‘Xmas deal! Royal Mail maxi dresses £100 each. Different colours available.’
Someone else posted a picture of his outfit fashioned from bags and joked: ‘Just saw Selfridges collaboration with Royal Mail in making this ‘lovely’ jacket. I’ve modelled my own version today.’
We’ve contacted Selfridges for comment and will update this article if they respond.
