Kyra Davis and David Woodward
Kyra Davis and David Woodward met poolside in July of 2016 at a hotel in Palm Springs, Calif., when Mr. Woodward found himself bored of dancing with his friends at an event called Yes and Yes Yes (described as an “unconference” which allowed for three days of unconventional, informal and unscheduled discussions). He spotted Ms. Davis sitting at a table by herself, with a lightning bolt painted across her face like David Bowie.
“One of the themes of the conference was ‘just say yes to this opportunity,’” Mr. Woodward recalled, so he walked over and introduced himself. The two found much to talk about, and discovered they lived just eight blocks apart in San Francisco.
“We talked until 4 a.m. or 5 a.m. or something,” Ms. Davis said. “At the end of our first night in Palm Springs, we had started to get cuddly and he said, ‘I’m here with someone else,’ and so I said ‘I’m going to bed.’”
Though the two went on a hike together the next day, and over the course of the ensuing months saw each other somewhat regularly, Ms. Davis said, “I had kind of friend-zoned him.”
In May 2017, in a lull when neither was traveling for work and after Mr. Woodward was once again single, he began what Ms. Davis described as a “two-week campaign of you-will-be-my-girlfriend.”
“He had planned all these lovely things,” she said, including movies, a “really nice” home-cooked dinner, a night at the theater to see “Hamilton” and the introduction of her dog and his cat.

Emily Robinson and Michael Berkowitz
Emily Robinson and Michael Berkowitz met in the summer of 2014 at a club in New York that Mr. Berkowitz managed at the time.
It wasn’t too difficult for Mr. Berkowitz, then 27, to pick Ms. Robinson, then 21, out of the crowd.
“She was wearing this beautiful sundress and she just looked so glamorous,” he recalled. “She looked like a movie star. She was also one of the few people I had seen at the club who wasn’t over the age of 60.”
Ms. Robinson, who grew up in New York, was in the company of a boyfriend to watch her father and grandfather play at Aces Bridge Club. And, by the time the two met a second time, at the National American Bridge Championships in Chicago in August 2015, Ms. Robinson was single, and Mr. Berkowitz was still very much interested.
“I was thrilled to see her again,” he said.
Ms. Robinson, who was living in France at that time while attending graduate school, was home for the summer. She was eventually introduced to Mr. Berkowitz. “I thought he was handsome and smart and so funny,” she said. “I had already heard he was a terrific bridge player.”
She joined forces with Mr. Berkowitz, as his partner, in a midnight game of bridge before inviting him out for a drink afterward.
She soon told him that she had to return to Fontainebleau, France, where she was in the second year of a six-year Ph.D. program at Insead. He told her that he lived just 20 blocks from her parents’ apartment on the Upper East Side — and that he had no interest in a long-distance relationship.
“We kept it very casual at that point,” Ms. Robinson said, “but I really liked him.”

Sheila Sahni, Sachin Nanavati
Dr. Sheila Sahni and Sachin Shirish Nanavati were married July 6 at the Pierre hotel in New York. Vimesh Thaker, a Hindu priest, officiated.
Dr. Sahni, 35, is an interventional cardiologist at Garden State Heart Center in Clark, N.J. She graduated from Georgetown, from which she also received a medical degree.
She is a daughter of Dr. Sushma Sahni and Dr. Rakesh K. Sahni of Rumson, N.J.
Mr. Nanavati, 37, is a senior business lead at Google in New York, where he works in the global business organization on the health care team and manages clients in the health care industry. He graduated from the University of Michigan and received an M.B.A. from Columbia. Mr. Nanavati was a founder and chief executive of Docphin, a digital health company in New York, which was acquired by HealthTap in 2016.
He is the son of Nita Nanavati and Shirish J. Nanavati of Wayne, N.J.
The couple met in 2017 in New York through the League, an online dating service.
Mayce Makani, Andrew Hevia
Mayce Mouyad Makani and Andrew Carrol Hevia were married July 5 in San Diego. The Rev. Simon Esshaki performed the ceremony at St. Peter Chaldean Catholic Cathedral.
Mrs. Hevia, 33, is a Spanish teacher at Immaculate Heart High School in Los Angeles. She graduated from the University of California, San Diego, and received a master’s degree in education from N.Y.U.
She is a daughter of Intissar Y. Makani and Mouyad Makani of El Cajon, Calif. Her father is a caterer, with kitchen facilities at the Chaldean cathedral where the wedding took place. Her mother retired as the lead florist at Keil’s, an independent grocery store in San Diego.
Mr. Hevia, 34, is the vice president for film and television in the Los Angeles office of Fabula, a Chilean production company. He was a producer of “Moonlight,” which won the Academy Award for best picture in 2017. In 2015-16, while a Fulbright research fellow in Hong Kong, he filmed a documentary, “Leave the Bus Through the Broken Window,” that premiered at South by Southwest in March. He graduated from Florida State University and received a master’s degree in media entrepreneurship from Fordham.
He is a son of Cecilia A. Hevia and Carlos A. Hevia of Miami. The groom’s mother retired as a teacher in the preschool at Kendall United Methodist Church in Pinecrest, Fla. His father retired as the executive director for capital improvements at Miami-Dade County Public Schools, and is now a management consultant in Miami.
The couple met in 2014 through OkCupid, the dating website, when both lived in New York.
Chanda Wong, Christopher Nickelson
Chanda Wong and Christopher Wesley Nickelson were married July 6 at Twin Willow Gardens, an events space in Snohomish, Wash. Sky T. Yang, a friend of the bride who became a Universal Life minister for the occasion, officiated. On July 5, the couple had a traditional Chinese tea ceremony at Ray’s Boathouse, a Seattle restaurant.
Ms. Wong, 32, is a senior product marketing manager at Microsoft in Redmond, Wash. She graduated from Wellesley College and received both an M.B.A. and a master’s degree in international studies from the University of Pennsylvania.
She is a daughter of Lena Wong and Moon Tong Wong of Fresh Meadows, Queens. The bride’s father owns Air Win, an HVAC installation and repair company in Fresh Meadows. Her mother was a stay-at-home parent.
Captain Nickelson, 30, has served in the Army since 2011, and is stationed at Fort Campbell in Kentucky. He deployed twice to Afghanistan, as an Apache helicopter pilot, and has been awarded a Bronze Star Medal, a Meritorious Service Medal, an Air Medal and other decorations. In August, he is to begin studying for an M.B.A. at Harvard. He graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point.
He is the son of Adrienne Nickelson of Hacienda Heights, Calif., and John W. Nickelson of Temecula, Calif. His mother is a saleswoman at LA Custom Blinds, a window treatments manufacturer in Los Angeles. His father is a salesman in the Murrieta, Calif., store of Lowe’s, the building supply company.
The couple met in 2010 at a bar in the Sanlitun area of Beijing, when both were at Peking University in separate study-abroad programs. They began dating later that year, after both had returned to the United States.

Sarah Freeman Yager and Dr. James Richard Hamblin were married July 6 at the bride’s parents’ ranch outside Pryor, Mont. Jody Avirgan, a friend of the couple who became a Universal Life minister for the event, officiated.
The bride, 29, is a managing editor of The Atlantic in Washington; the groom, 36, is a staff writer for the magazine.
The bride graduated from Yale. She is the daughter of Melissa D. Yager and William A. Yager of Pryor. The bride’s parents raise cattle at their ranch.
The groom is also a lecturer at Yale, from which he received a master’s degree in public health. He is also the author of “If Our Bodies Could Talk,” (Doubleday, 2016). He graduated from Wake Forest and received a medical degree from Indiana University.
He is the son of Nancy L. Hamblin and Dr. James W. Hamblin of Munster, Ind. The groom’s mother is a founding board member of the Munster Education Foundation, a nonprofit organization that awards grants to teachers, administrators, parents and community members for new and innovative education experiences beyond what the current school budget can support. She is also a former elementary schoolteacher in the Indiana Public Schools system. The groom’s father is a dentist in private practice in Highland, Ind.

He graduated with highest distinction from the Higher School of Economics in Moscow, and received a Masters in Finance and Economics, with first-class honors, from the University of London’s School of Economics.
He is a son of Dr. Leyla Mukharlyamova and Dr. Vladimir Kuzmichev of Moscow. The groom’s mother is a doctor of internal medicine in private practice in Moscow. His father is a thoracic surgeon in private practice in Moscow.

Mrs. Genser, 45, is an adviser, developing relationships and partnerships with corporations, for the World Bank Group. Mr. Genser, 47, is the managing director of Perseus Strategies, a law firm, human rights advocacy organization and government affairs concern, and is also an adjunct professor of law at Georgetown University Law Center, both in Washington. In 2001, he founded Freedom Now, an organization in Washington that works internationally for the release of political prisoners. He graduated from Cornell, received a master’s degree in public policy from Harvard and received a law degree from the University of Michigan.
He is the son of Lyne Taylor Genser and Dr. Sander G. Genser of Potomac, Md. The groom’s mother is a clinical social worker in private practice with offices in Bethesda, Md., and Alexandria, Va. His father, a psychiatrist, retired as a captain in the United States Public Health Service Commissioned Corps and worked at the National Institute on Drug Abuse in Rockville, Md. He is now the medical director for Outpatient Addiction and Mental Health Services of Montgomery County, Md., also in Rockville.
The bride’s previous marriage ended in divorce, as did the groom’s.
The couple met in 2013 at a conference of the World Economic Forum’s young leaders, in Myanmar, and spoke long enough to make an impression on one another. In 2017, a mutual friend from that same group, reintroduced them, after both had been divorced.

Ms. O’Hara, 32, is the global market access manager for neuroscience at Janssen Pharmaceutical Companies of Johnson & Johnson in Titusville, N.J. Dr. Manthiram, also 31, is an assistant professor of chemical engineering at M.I.T. He graduated from Stanford and received a Ph.D. in chemical engineering from the University of California, Berkeley. He completed his postdoctoral training at the California Institute of Technology.

Mr. Silberman, 29, is the chief of staff to the chief executive of Extend Fertility, a Manhattan-based start-up company focused on women’s health and fertility preservation. He also sits on the associate board of Minds Matter NYC, the New York chapter of a national education-focused volunteer organization.
He is a son of Shelli Silberman of Delray Beach, Fla., and the late Robert Silberman. The groom’s mother is a retired teacher at Public School 135 in Queens Village, Queens.
Rebecca Gale, Jonathan Noah
Rebecca Marie Gale and Jonathan Adam Noah were married July 5 at the Lodge at Stirling Ridge in Warren, N.J. The bride’s father, Russell H. Gale, officiated, having become a Universal Life minister for this event, with Scott I. Noah, the groom’s father, also leading the ceremony.
Mrs. Gale Noah, 29, is a wholesale manager in New York for Vhernier, an Italian jewelry company. She received an associate degree, in jewelry design, and a bachelor’s degree, in direct and interactive marketing, magna cum laude from the Fashion Institute of Technology.
She is also a daughter of Linda M. Jay, who lives with the bride’s father in East Brunswick, N.J. The bride’s father is the deputy director of Central Jersey Legal Services in New Brunswick, N.J. Her mother is an administrative supervisor for social work at a Middlesex County social services agency, also in New Brunswick.
Mr. Noah, also 29, is a current and development executive for talent and music at MTV International in New York, and produces original music programs. He graduated from the University of Arizona.
He is also a son of Loriann Weinberg Noah, who lives with the groom’s father, also in East Brunswick. The groom’s mother retired as a preschool teacher at Temple B’nai Shalom in East Brunswick. His father is the general counsel and chief compliance officer at Fieldpoint Private Securities, a private bank; he works in Greenwich, Conn., and in New York.
The couple met in middle school in East Brunswick, but didn’t begin dating until years later. The two became closer in 2011, after he graduated from college and took a job in New York and the two began commuting together. “Commuting turned into let’s grab dinner, into drinks, into we should catch a movie,” she said.
Stephanie Bloom, Spencer Lucker
Stephanie Morgan Bloom and Spencer Frederick Lucker were married July 6 at the Garden Theater, an events space in Detroit. Rabbi Paul M. Yedwab officiated, with Rabbi Eugene H. Levy participating.
Mrs. Lucker, 31, is the director of client engagement at Bloom Asset Management in Farmington Hills, Mich., of which her father is an owner. Before joining the firm last February she was a project leader in the retail practice at the Boston Consulting Group. She graduated from the University of Michigan, and received a master’s degree in teaching from American University and an M.B.A. from Columbia.
She is a daughter of Pamela J. Bloom and Kenneth J. Bloom of West Bloomfield, Mich. Her mother was a stay-at-home parent.
Mr. Lucker, also 31, is an industry engagement manager for the Detroit Mayor’s Office of Workforce Development. He develops partnerships in the technology sector among employers. He graduated cum laude from the University of Arkansas, from which he also received a master’s degree in public service.
He is the son of Elizabeth A. Lucker and Mary S. Machen of Little Rock, Ark. Ms. Lucker retired as a child development and parenting teacher at Hall High School, as well as a licensed independent professional counselor and social worker, both in Little Rock. Ms. Machen, who is also retired, was a social worker and the director of community outreach at the Carti Cancer Treatment Center.
The couple were introduced in 2010 by mutual friends at a Washington Nationals home game while Ms. Bloom was living in Washington, and Mr. Lucker was visiting from Arkansas, and then ran into each other at parties and events. In 2015, they had their first date in Washington while he lived there, and she lived in New York. They began a long-distance relationship, and three years later he proposed at what she called her “favorite place on earth,” Camp Tamarack in Ortonville, Mich., where she had spent 13 summers.
Isabel Wise, Robert O’Gara
Isabel Vilar Wise and Robert Dominick O’Gara were married July 6 at Newagen Seaside Inn on Southport Island, Me. Sally Bullard, a notary public in Maine, officiated.
Mrs. O’Gara, 23, is a management consulting senior analyst at Accenture in Boston. She graduated from Cornell.
She is a daughter of Dr. Carmela Vilar Wise and Richard R. Wise of Wayland, Mass. The bride’s father is the chief executive of Lippincott, a brand strategy and design consultancy based in New York. Her mother is a retired orthodontist at Dental Associates of Walpole in Walpole, Mass.
Mr. O’Gara, 26, is a professional hockey player. He was drafted by the Boston Bruins of the National Hockey League while attending Milton Academy in Milton, Mass., and won an N.C.A.A. national championship in 2013 at Yale, from which he graduated. Mr. O’Gara, a defenseman, played 22 games for the New York Rangers and eight for the Boston Bruins in 2017-18.
He is the son of Christine Dawn Rittmeyer O’Gara and Brian Keith O’Gara of Nesconset, N.Y. The groom’s mother is a teacher at Fifth Avenue Elementary School in East Northport, N.Y. His father is an accountant at Arbor Commercial Mortgage in Uniondale, N.Y.

Leana Moritt, Steven Kushner
Rabbi Leana Moritt and Rabbi Steven Carter Kushner are to be married July 7 at Temple Ner Tamid in Bloomfield N.J. Rabbi Rex Perlmeter is to officiate, leading the ceremony with his wife, Rabbi Rachel Hertzman.
Rabbi Moritt, 56, is the rabbi at Temple Beth-El of Jersey City. She graduated from N.Y.U. She is the vice president of the New Jersey-West Hudson Valley Association of Reform Rabbis.
She is a daughter of R. Skye Moritt of Magliaso, Switzerland, and the late Fred G. Moritt. The bride’s father was a judge in Brooklyn for the Civil Court of the City of New York, and also served in the New York Senate from 1945 to 1957. He also composed dozens of songs including “Sing Everyone Sing,” sung by the tenor Jan Peerce in 1951. Her mother, a stay-at-home parent, was a Pan Am stewardess in the 1950s, and in the 1980s a part-time historian of houses in Eastern Long Island for the Society for the Preservation for Long Island Antiquities.
Rabbi Kushner, 69, is the emeritus rabbi at Temple Ner Tamid. He graduated from Wayne State University.
He is a son of the late Miriam E. Kushner and the late Aid Kushner, who lived in Detroit. The groom’s mother was a stay-at-home parent, who in the 1930s and ’40s was a classical pianist in Detroit. The groom’s father worked as a salesman at Sears, and from 1934 to 1940 was an athletic trainer for the Detroit Lions football team.
Rabbi Kushner is a descendant of John Alden and Priscilla Mullins, passengers on the Mayflower.
The bride’s previous marriage ended in divorce, as did the groom’s previous three marriages.
The couple met in 2009 over Torah study at a diner in Little Falls, N.J., when a mutual friend invited Rabbi Moritt to join an ongoing Torah study group, in which Rabbi Kushner was, and still is, a member.
Daniel Hrdlicka, Tyson Jurgens
Daniel Joseph Hrdlicka and Tyson Lavern Jurgens were married July 2 in the events space at Lafayette Grand Cafe and Bakery in New York. The Rev. Ricardo R. Lopez, an Episcopal priest, officiated.
Mr. Hrdlicka (left), 30, is the annual-giving manager at the Cathedral School of St. John the Divine in New York. He graduated from the University of Tulsa.
He is a son of Kathryn T. Hrdlicka and Steven R. Hrdlicka of St. Louis County, Mo. The groom’s mother is a radiation therapist at Mercy Hospital South in St. Louis. His father is a medical-billing specialist in St. Louis for NextGen Healthcare, an information technology company that manages back-office functions for hospitals and medical practices.
Mr. Jurgens, 33, is the senior marketing manager at Newsela, an educational technology company in New York. He graduated from Ithaca College and received an M.B.A. and a master’s degree in educational leadership from St. Louis University. From 2008 to 2010, he was a Teach for America corps member, and taught a second-grade class at Troost Elementary School in Kansas City, Mo.
He is the son of Angela R. Jurgens of Lincoln, Neb., and Randall L. Jurgens of Omaha. The groom’s mother is a pharmacy specialist at the east campus of Bryan Medical Center, in Lincoln. His father is a customer service manager in the Lincoln office of Frito Lay, the chip manufacturer.
The couple met on Scruff, a dating app, in 2015 when both lived in Kansas City.
Micaela Dea, Curtis Clauson
Dr. Micaela Lorraine Dea and Curtis Davin Clauson were married July 5 at Cave B Inn and Estate Winery in Quincy, Wash. Davin Clauson, the groom’s father who became a Universal Life minister for the event, officiated.
The bride, 26, is a dentist in Seattle. She graduated from Washington State and received a Doctor of Dental Surgery from the University of Washington.
She is a daughter of Kathryn K. Chinn and Gregory M. Dea of Bellevue, Wash. The bride’s father retired as a national sales account executive at US Foods in Seattle. Her mother retired as a finance systems analyst at Boeing, also in Seattle.
The groom, also 26, is a sales executive in Seattle for Hatton Marine Engine and Generator Systems, a company specializing in marine diesel engines, generator and stationary power systems. He graduated from the University of Washington.
He is the son of Norma Clauson and Mr. Clauson of Edmonds, Wash. The groom’s mother is a director and accountant for World Wide Movers in Edmonds. His father retired as a property manager at Boeing in Seattle.
The couple met during summer 2013 after their sophomore years in college.
Cadence Willse, Simon Freyaldenhoven
Cadence Elizabeth Willse and Simon Freyaldenhoven were married July 1, in a self-uniting ceremony in their apartment in Philadelphia. On July 6, Jerome F. Marston Jr., a friend of the couple, led another ceremony at the Pousada Castelo Palmela, a hotel in Palmela, Portugal.
In September, Dr. Willse, 32, is to begin as a postdoctoral scholar, studying the role of philanthropy in American politics and the educational system at the Center on Philanthropy and Civil Society at Stanford. She graduated from St. Mary’s College of Maryland, and received both a master’s degree, in urban education policy, and a doctoral degree, in May, in political science, from Brown.
She is the daughter of Linda J. Willse of Weymouth, Mass., and Charles E. Willse of Ipswich, Mass.
Dr. Freyaldenhoven, 29, is a machine-learning economist in the research department at the Federal Reserve Bank in Philadelphia, where he develops novel statistical tools to analyze complex data sets. He graduated and received a master’s degree, in econometrics and operations research, from Maastricht University in the Netherlands, and received a doctoral degree in economics from Brown.
He is the son of Anne E. Mueller-Freyaldenhoven and Udo J. Freyaldenhoven, both of Langerwehe, Germany.
The couple met while studying in the Rockefeller Library at Brown in 2014, when the groom asked the bride to take a break and grab a cup of coffee with him.
