Woman turns her grotty concrete yard into a stunning space for less than £50 and it’s all thanks to a stencil

A THRIFTY woman managed to transform her concrete garden into a Meditereaan-inspired oasis for less than £50.

Victoria Measures, 29, decided to give her yard a makeover after being furloughed, as she ‘hated’ the outside space she inherited when buying her house last year.

Victoria, from Milton Keynes, splashed out just £48 on supplies, including paint and sealant, and now her garden looks unrecognisable.

The market executive said: “I hated how our concrete garden looked and I wanted to make it somewhere that we could relax and enjoy in the summer.

“We moved into our terrace house last September and hadn’t done anything to the garden.

“After being furloughed in March, it was just the project I needed.

"And after looking at various options to make it look better, painting and stencilling seemed like the best option.

“It cost under £50 which made it even better.

“Now I love spending time in the garden.”

She started by giving her patio three coats of coats of paint, using Dulux Weathershield masonry paint in ‘concrete grey’, which cost £19.

Victoria painted her raised flower bed around the edge white as a contrast, which cost £15.

Next she grabbed a stencil and used it to create a chic effect on her patio, using masking tape to hold it in place while she dabbed paint on it with a sponge.

She said: “I used a tiny bit of paint because if you use too much then it causes the paint to bleed beneath the stencil so you’re not left with a crisp finish.”

And for anyone inspired to revamp their own patio, Victoria recommended wiping paint from the stencil each time you use it.

The final step was sealing everything using a £15 sealant, and victoria finally got the garden she was craving.

She added: “The seal creates a layer of protection which you can feel is smoother and it stops dirt, dust and rain from ruining your paintwork.

“I applied four coats just to ensure maximum protection. It’s been a couple of months now and we’ve had plenty of rain and I’m pleased to say that the patio is still in excellent condition.”

Victoria is now able to relax and enjoy her garden in the warm weather, adding: “I can’t believe what a transformation it is, using paint and a stencil.

“I hated the garden when we first moved in but now, I absolutely love it!

“It's so much fresher, more stylish and it's very low maintenance too.

“The garden is now perfect for relaxing and enjoying a cocktail on a summer’s day.

“I'm no longer ashamed of our garden and we can't wait to invite some friends round for a BBQ.”
