Food recalls are issued when a product is unsafe for customers to use. For example, if an item contains an ingredient not mentioned on the label, it could cause harm to someone with allergies.
Asda is the latest British supermarket to recall a food product.
The food retailer is recalling its own brand Maple Flavour Pork Belly Slices because of undeclared ingredients.
The product contains wheat and soya which are not mentioned on the label.
This means it is a possible health risk for anyone with an allergy intolerance to wheat or gluten, or an allergy to soya, according to the Food Standards Agency (FSA).
The Maple Flavour Pork Belly Slices come in a pack 400g in size and have a best before date of October 29, 2021.
In a statement on its website, the FSA said: “This product contains wheat (gluten) and soya making it a possible health risk for anyone with an allergy or intolerance to wheat or gluten and/or an allergy to soya.”
The organisation also explained what action Asda has taken to inform customers of the recall.
It said: “Asda is recalling the above product from customers.

“Point of sale notices will be displayed in all retail stores that are selling this product.
“This notice explains to customers why the product is being recalled and tell them what to do if they have bought the product.”
In the notice, Asda told customers: “If you have purchased Maple Flavour Pork Belly Slices with the above use by date, please bring it back to your nearest store where you will be given a full refund.
“You do not need your receipt.”
The supermarket added: “We are very sorry for any inconvenience caused and will ensure this doesn’t happen again.
“If you would like any further information please contact: Asda Customer Relations.”
The phone number given in the notice was 0800 952 0101.
The FSA’s advice was the same, with the organisation saying: “If you have bought the above product and have an allergy or intolerance to wheat or gluten and/or an allergy to soya, do not eat it.
“Instead, return it to the store from where it was bought for a full refund.”
Asda is not the only supermarket to recall food products in recent days.
A product sold in Tesco and Sainsbury’s, as well as Asda, is being withdrawn from shelves due to undeclared ingredients.
Flying Goose Sriracha Mayo Sauce is being recalled because it contains mustard and soya not mentioned on the packaging.
The sauce’s pack size is 445ml and its best before date is August 28, 2022.
Customers who have already bought the product are urged to return it to stores for a full refund.
