Behold the battered chip butty, your new favourite deep-fried treat

You want chips and gravy.

You also want some deep fried batter, but you aren’t quite hungry enough for a full plate of fish and chips.

What do you do?

Never again shall you have to make the impossible choice between equally delicious options.

Not at Flounders Fish and Chips in Blackrod, Greater Manchester, anyway.

For this chippy is now selling something truly magical: a deep-fried battered chip butty.

Bread is put in the fryer and cooked for a few minutes, before being turned over and cooked on the other side with chips then placed inside.

You can choose to have English curry, Chinese curry, gravy, or mushy peas inside.

And the treat is only £2.

Victoria Flatters, who has owned the business for eight years, believes she is the only chippy in the area to sell the battered barms.

The 50-year-old said: ‘My daughter sent me a link about a battered and the shop was doing it down south.

‘We weren’t sure about it because we thought it would be a bit of a mess.

‘But they’re quite light and really nice. People have been coming back for more – one customer has been every day for two weeks!’

‘We just thought we would do a bit of variety.

‘With demand I have to keep up with what people like and what the changes are, it’s been a brilliant response.’

When lockdown lifts and the world returns to normal, we know where we’re heading after a big night out.
