Costa Coffee urgent food recall over failed allergy warning emerges – check affected item

Costa Coffee has announced it is recalling one of this year’s sweet treats amid discovery that some of the products may not have the correct allergen labelling information. The coffee giant is recalling its top-selling Millionaire Mallow Bites due to concerns that some of the packaging for the product has been mislabeled, causing health concerns across the nation.

The Food Standards Agency warned that some of these products have been mistakenly labelled as “Cornflake Cluster” instead of “Millionaire Mallow Bites” meaning that the ingredients listed don’t disclose that they contain egg and wheat, causing a possible health risk for anyone with an allergy or intolerance to egg, wheat or gluten.

The items impacted are batch code 19289 with a best before date of January 7 and 8, 2020.

This product contents egg and wheat making it a possible health risk for anyone suffering from an allergy or intolerance to egg, wheat or gluten.

Costa Coffee has taken action to right their wrong by issuing an urgent product recall from customers and have contacted the relevant allergy support organisations. The organisation will then get in touch with members about the recall.

The coffee giant has also issued a “point-of-sale” notice to its customers, the Food Standard Agency said.

The purpose of the notice is to explain to customers why the product is being recalled and to tell them what to do if they have bought the product.

The notice states: “This Costa Coffee product has been recalled as the labelling potentially contains two incorrectly declared allergens; egg and wheat.

“At Costa Coffee we take these issues incredibly seriously, which is why we have withdrawn the product from sale. We sincerely apologise to our customer for any confusion.

“Customers who have eaten the product and feel unwell should immediately contact their local health services to seek advice.

“Customers with these Millionaire Mallow Bites should return them to store for a full refund.

“Customers should also feel free to contact our customer service team to discuss on 03330035883.”

The advice provided by the Food Standard Agency states: “If you have bought the above product and have an allergy or intolerance to egg, wheat or gluten, do not eat it.

“Instead return it to the store from where it was bought for a full refund.”

No other Costa Coffee products are known to be affected.

Morrisons, Aldi, Lidl, Sainsbury’s and ASDA have issued an urgent food recall due to food products which could contain salmonella.

Supermarket chains Asda, Aldi, Lidl, Morrisons, Sainsbury’s and Spar have all issued a health warning on various products.

Hummus items are being recalled as they pose the risk of salmonella and shoppers are being urged not to eat them.

Symptoms of the illness include fever, headaches, muscle pain, sickness and abdominal cramps.

The recall has been issued by Zorba Delicacies Limited, who supply houmous products to a number of retailers.

The Food Standards Agency posted: “Point of sale notices will be displayed in all retail stores that are selling these products.

“These notices explain to customers why the products are being recalled and tell them what to do if they have bought the product.”

Various hummus products from the supermarket giants are being recalled amid fears.
