Dad shows how he makes quick potato toasties without bread

It’s tough to keep lunch times varied and make sure kids stay interested in what you offer up.

So one dad created a fun twist on the traditional toastie by using slices of potato instead of bread.

George Georgievski has built a following of over 130,000 people on social media by sharing the food he puts together for his two daughters.

His latest potato toastie recipe is great for kids or just adults who want a quick and tasty treat.

He said: ‘I’m clearly having too much fun with my ancient sandwich maker thing. Also, blame lockdown for this creation.

‘All you need is a potato, a veggie peeler and some classic toastie ingredients like cheese, salami and tomatoes.’

It takes about 10 minutes to put it together.

George starts by peeling potatoes to remove the skin, then takes his peeler and creates shavings.

Once he has a pile, he uses them to line the toastie maker and then adds his fillings.

After filling the section, he covers it with more potato shavings, pulls the top down and leaves it to cook.

When the toastie is crispy and golden, he removes it from the machine and serves it up for lunch.

People loved the idea and said they were keen to try it out or experiment with different variations.

‘I made this for my daughter’s breakfast and she loved it! Thanks,’ one person wrote.

‘You are a clever, clever man’ another added.

A third posted: ‘This is so creative. I’m thinking this would work with sweet potatoes too.’
