Free Krispy Kreme: Britons can get free doughnuts all this week – here’s how

The UK lockdown has meant putting a lot of life on hold, from holidays and days out to socialising and parties. But for anyone who had to mark their birthday in a much more low-key way during the coronavirus pandemic, there is good news this week from one of the nation’s favourite doughnut brands. Krispy Kreme is sharing the birthday love as it celebrates 83 years of its iconic doughnuts.

The company is treating those who feel they have missed out on their own birthdays since the pandemic caused a national lockdown.

Over 22 million Britons had their birthday in the period in which everyone was asked to stay at home to save lives – meaning plenty of parties and cakes were missed.

However, all this week, anyone who celebrated their birthday during the three months of the UK’s lockdown will be able to pick up a free doughnut in store.

The offer allows anyone with an ID confirming their birth date to a complimentary Original Glazed doughnut with any purchase.

Though the doughnut giant’s birthday is on Monday, the offer is redeemable all week from July 13 – July 19 2020.

The freebie offer is available to anyone who had their birthday between March 23 and July 3 – from the start of the lockdown to the day before “Super Saturday”.

Richard Cheshire, Krispy Kreme UK and Ireland’s CEO said: “We started making our iconic Original Glazed doughnut from the USA in 1937.

“Ever since, we’ve always been committed to making people smile.

“For our birthday this year, we want to bring smiles to the millions of UK doughnut fans who feel like they missed out on celebrations this year by offering the joy of an Original Glazed treat on us!”

The news will be welcomed by many, as recent research by One4all Digital Gift Card discovered that one in ten of those with a birthday in lockdown didn’t celebrate at all.

The offer is valid in Krispy Kreme stores in the UK, but doesn’t include cabinets within supermarkets such as Tesco and Sainsbury’s.

Unfortunately it’s not being offered for online orders.

It’s also subject to availability and is limited to one per customer, with a minimum purchase value of £1.55.

Krispy Kreme was founded on July 13, 1937 in the USA – but it didn’t make it over to the UK until 2003 when it launched in Harrods.

This month the company announced a new menu as it switched up its flavours and brought back some old favourites.

The revamped range includes the signature Nutty Chocolatta doughnut, which is made using Nutella.

The filled doughnut contains the iconic hazelnut spread, and is covered in a chocolate flavoured icing with a white chocolate drizzle and a sprinkling of hazelnuts.

The brand has also taken the Original Glazed doughnut and has launched a filled version which will have new flavours introduced on rotation, starting with caramel.

However, if you or someone you know has a birthday coming up and you’re not entitled to the offer, Krispy Kreme has plenty of other options to help you celebrate.

You can now personalise your doughnuts with hand-piped messages, though the service is only available for deliveries in London.
