Greggs launches DIY tutorials so you can the chain's bakes at home

For those mourning the closure of Greggs and wondering when they will next be able to lay their hands on a humble steak bake, the good news is that it might not be too long.

No, we’re not talking about the chain reopening, but there’s another way to tuck into the bakery’s goods sooner than expected.

Greggs has launched its own DIY baking tutorials – coined as GIY (Greggs It Yourself) by the popular chain.

These videos explain how customers can recreate popular items on the menu at home, while stores remain closed.

The first tutorial, posted on the Greggs Facebook page, is the sausage, cheese and bean melt – which the bakery claims has an ‘easy’ cooking rating.

Those looking to recreate it, will simply need to get their hands on some beans, sausages, puff pastry, cheese and an egg.

The video goes on to explain the process, which involves cutting two squares of pastry to start and then egg washing the edges. Then the beans and sausages need to be squashed a little before popping them on the pastry and sprinkling the cheese on top.

Next up, pop the remaining pastry square on top, fork the edges and egg wash before baking for 20 minutes at 180° C, until ‘golden brown and piping hot.’

The video – which was posted this morning – has already received more than 1,100 likes and 1,600 comments, with many asking if this video will be the first of many.

One excitable user commented: ‘Do you have a recipe for your chicken bakes???’

Luckily, the chain has now confirmed that more glorious videos will be on the way shortly, so fans should keep an eye on the brand’s social media channels for more easy-to-follow recipes.

Greggs spokesperson said: ‘With everyone stuck at home and missing their Greggs, we hope “GIY” will provide a bit of light relief, as well as filling a void until we’re able to open again.’
