Tesco, Asda & Sainsbury’s extend food recall as plastic found in food – more batches added

Baby food sold in Tesco, Asda and Sainsbury’s has been recalled due to a possible safety risk. This is the full list of batches affected.

SMA Wysoy Infant Formula

Nestlé UK recalled the baby formula as some packs could contain pieces of plastic, making it dangerous to consume.

The products have been sold in chemists, online and in supermarkets including Tesco, Asda and Sainsbury’s.

Anyone who has bought the affected items are urged not to consume them.

A statement from Nestlé said: “The safety and quality of our products are our top priorities and we never compromise on the health of our consumers.

“Nestlé UK and Ireland has decided, as a precautionary measure, to voluntarily recall all cans of SMA Wysoy with the [below] batch details.

“Some cans have been found to contain pieces of blue plastic used to make the scoops.

“Parents who feed the baby SMA Wysoy should look on the base of any cans at the best before dates or batch code to see if they are from an affected batch.

“If you have a can from one of the affected batches, please do not feed your baby with it.”

Customers are asked to contact the SMA Careline on 0800 0 818180 from the UK, or 1800 931 832 from Ireland.

Shoppers can arrange a refund, ask any questions or get more information.

All affected packs are in the size 800 grams and there are a number of batches and best before dates affected.

The presence of blue plastic could cause a potential choking hazard to children.

No other Nestlé or SMA products are known to be affected.

The statement added: “The safety and quality of our products are non-negotiable priorities for our company.

“We sincerely apologise to our consumers for the distress and inconvenience caused by this voluntary recall.”
