We’ve covered the general best-ranked restaurants, but now it’s time to take a look at the most important meal of the day: brunch.
When travelling somewhere new, how often do you consult Tripadvisor reviews – albeit even a quick half-scroll – before venturing in, and therefore committing to a restaurant?
It’s become a go-to destination in its own right, with many of us leaning on the words of strangers as a make or break when picking somewhere to eat.
So the next time you’re struggling to pick a place for brunch, look to this list. These hotspots serve up the best, according to Tripadvisor’s data.
Scarlett Green, London
Inspired by Australian cafe culture, the menu offer delicious and seasonal options. Classics include sweetcorn fritters with smashed avocado, poached eggs, red pepper, habanero and almond puree, Graceburn feta and corn rib and the bacon roll, which consists of poached eggs, crispy onions, back bacon, hollandaise, chilli and paratha roti. Whether you’ve got a sweet or savoury tooth there’s an option, and you can also go bottomless on the booze.
Salt Café, Edinburgh, Lothian
The brunch menu is based on seasonal ingredients, sourced from local artisanal producers. Dishes include Steak ‘n’ Eggs – a 6oz flat iron steak from organic grass-fed Scottish beef, baba ganoush, a toasted sourdough sandwich filled with haggis and gouda, topped with a mustard béchamel and a fried free-range egg. They’re also dog friendly.
Jo & Co Restaurants, Hove, East Sussex
Inspired by the owners travels to Australia and New Zealand, there’s French Toast ‘Banana Foster’, a brioche french toast with sweet banana in pecan and caramel sauce and Spicy Veggie Cornbread with fried eggs, avocado, spring onion, chilli, coriander and lime.
E-Street Cafe, Glasgow, Lanarkshire
Located in Glasgow’s south side, E-Street Cafe offers an all-day brunch menu so there’s no rush to get in before midday. Highlights include chana puree, harissa, spinach and almonds and crushed petit pois with mint and chilli oil.
Toast Oxted, Oxted, Surrey
Here, an eggs benedict (or Eggs Bennie as they call it) comes with pulled pork, sriracha hollandaise, poached eggs and brioche.
Fore Street Café Bar, Newquay, Cornwall
Good for those wanting a Cornish take on brunch, as well as your vegan friends, who will be well fed here.
Homeground Coffee + Kitchen, Windermere, Cumbria
Known for their brunches involving fried chicken, the ‘RKFC’ is Rice Krispie fried chicken breast, smoked cheddar, cherry barbecue sauce, gherkins, apple slaw and a brioche bun.
The Fig, Rye, East Sussex
Switch up your usual brunch for dishes such as flatbread with za’atar roasted aubergine, free range poached eggs, labneh, chilli sauce, rocket, pomegranate and toasted seeds. You can also book into a room above the cafe, making it great for a weekend away.
Robinsons Cafe, York, Yorkshire
The toughest decision you’ll make on the morning you visit here: choosing from sourdough topped with creamy truffles mushrooms with poached eggs or chorizo and parma ham hash with potatoes, sun dried tomatoes, and poached eggs.
FINT, Leeds, Yorkshire
FINT serves up Scandi-inspired dishes. A place that seriously elevates a classic, instead of eggs benedict you can brunch on their Braised Duck Benedict which is made up of slow braised duck, crumpet, caramelised onion, poached duck egg, truffled duck egg hollandaise and preserved blackberries.
