How to remove weeds and moss from lawns
Many people dream of a lush and green lawn to enjoy all summer long. But often this dream is dashed by weeds popping up between the blades of grass.
Occasionally, the weeds can get out of control if left for even a short while and end up overtaking gardens.
Most products or nifty home hacks that are targeted towards getting rid of weeds tend to also kill off grass too, so it can be difficult to know how to banish weeds but not grass.
Luckily there is an instant way that doesn’t involve any chemicals whatsoever and is relatively quick.
Steve Chilton, a garden expert from LeisureBench, claimed while chemical weed killers are the easiest way to get rid of lawn weeds, manually removing them is the better option.
He said: “The best way to get rid of lawn weeds instantly and effectively is to take them out from the root.
“This ensures that the whole weed has come out, instead of just killing the flower or the top half.
“If you need an even quicker way to get rid of them, then chemical weed killer is an effective way to do so. However, you must be careful when using chemical weed killer as it can kill the grass around the weed, as well as hurt local wildlife if ingested.”
Harry Bodell at PriceYourJob.co.uk noted that there are several methods for removing lawn weeds swiftly and with minimal effort.

He said that a weed killer treatment is “one of the quickest and easiest” but it does have harmful effects on the beneficial insects in the garden.
For those who want to avoid chemicals altogether, The expert said: “You can get rid of weeds instantly, with no digging and effectively using the right tools.
“A dandelion remover tool looks a bit like a screwdriver with a forked prong on the end. This is ideal and the best way for removing deep-rooted weeds from your lawn without leaving unsightly holes. But you can also use a Japanese gardening knife or even an old butter knife.”
To use either of these tools, Harry instructed simply pushing them into the ground and lever slightly. He said: “Your weed and root should come straight out without needing to dig or pull hard.”
Both experts also shared how gardeners can prevent weeds from returning to their lawns. Steve recommended feeding, aerating and scarifying the grass. He said: “This helps the grass become stronger which deters weeds from growing.”
The gardening pro also suggested gardeners rake before mowing the lawn as this “discourages any creeping weeds from growing”.
To stop lawn weeds from returning, Harry explained that this can be done by gardeners changing their mowing habits.
He said: “If you’re constantly battling the lawn weeds, mowing at the right height should stop them. Cutting your grass too short leaves bare patches and this gives weeds room to grow. So, set your blade height higher.”
