Beer gardens in England are getting ready to reopen next week after months of being closed. Pubs across the country have been inundated with bookings as people rush to meet up with friends they haven’t seen for months. But if you haven’t managed to secure a reservation at your local beer garden, why not create your own at home?

Horticulture expert Thomas Goodman from MyJobQuote has shared advice on how you can turn your outdoor space into a beer garden.

The bar

The first thing you will need is a bar so you can store all your favourite beverages.

There are lots of ways to create your own bar but the basics include recycled timber and any other materials you have lying around.

Here are some of Mr Goodman’s tips:

1. First thing you need to do is create a frame by adding legs using even-sized pieces of wood.

Then, attach them using a drill and wooden screws.

2. When you’ve got your frame and legs in position, it’s time to create a bar floor.

To do this, you can use the same pieces of wood you’ve used to slot into the frame.

You can also add some front and side panels or leave it open-plan.

3. When your legs, frame and floor are in place, you can install your counter.

To do this, you need to create another frame slightly larger than the base.

You will need to attach it to a flat piece of wood which needs to be sturdy enough to hold bottles and drinks.

4. It’s now time to decorate your bar.

You can decorate it any way you like but some suggestions include a Hawaiian theme, floral decorations or a more authentic bar aesthetic.

Stools, wooden benches and tables are a great way to finish it off.

Pizza oven

Outdoor pizza ovens are a great way to make your garden more sociable and are loved by chefs like James Martin.

Mr Goodman recommends hiring a professional to build a pizza oven as it can be quite complicated.

A professional will make sure your pizza oven is safe to use and can cook your pizzas at high temperates of around 400C.

If you don’t want to have one built in your garden, you can always buy one online.
