Gardener recommends three bedroom plants to boost your health while you sleep

Gardening enthusiast Andrew White at Rhino Greenhouses Direct shared the plants that could promote sleep, reduce stress and anxiety, and help to improve the air quality.

Andrew said: “Having plants in your bedroom, not only can enhance the aesthetics of your room but also can improve your health while you are sleeping.

“Having plants in your bedroom can improve the air quality, by absorbing and filtering out the carbon dioxide and releasing oxygen.

“Improved air quality not only improves respiratory health but can also improve your quality of sleep and reduce stress.”

One of Andrew’s bedroom plants he is enthused about is the lavender plant, which is “renowned for helping us sleep”.

Lavender has also been “proven to improve your mood”, Andrew beamed.

He elaborated: “Floral scents like lavender help to make you feel happier and can actually have a calming effect on your emotions.

“Lavender is proven to help you ease anxious feelings, which allows you to sleep better which inevitably improves your immune system.”

Andrew’s other plant recommendation for the bedroom is spider plants, which have been shown to be “an extremely efficient cleanser of the air”.

Another bedroom plant Andrew is a fan of is the attractive peace lily, which he said is a “superb choice for producing oxygen and purifying the air”.

Fellow plant enthusiast and interior design expert, Melissa Denham at Hammonds Fitted Furniture, also said houseplants can reduce feelings of stress and improve sleep.

Melissa is also a fan of the peace lily, as she said it “removes toxins and allergens from the air”.

The interior design expert also recommended lavender, which she said “is a great addition if you’re struggling to snooze”.

The best place to put plants in the bedroom

There are a few novel ways to place houseplants into your room, from having a cluster of large plant pots near your windows to hanging plant baskets, said Melissa.

She added: “Hanging plant pots can free up floor space and surfaces, putting your houseplants in prime position to get the right level of sunlight each day.

“Just make sure that you hang your houseplants away from areas you’ll be moving through often, otherwise you may bang into them and disturb your precious plants.”

Andrew did add a word of caution, however. He said: “Like everything in life, personal circumstances must be considered.

“For instance, if you are an allergy sufferer and are prone to bouts of hay fever, keeping plants in your bedroom may not be ideal as they may trigger a reaction.”
