Bella (Courtney Miller) has had a crush on newcomer Nikau (Kawakawa Fox-Reo) since he arrived in the Bay with his mum Gemma (Bree Peters) and uncle Ari (Rob Kipa-Williams). After being introduced by mutual friend Ryder (Lukas Radovich), the pair have been getting to know each other and bonding over their similar pasts.
When Colby (Tim Franklin) gets out of hospital, he is initially less than impressed to see that his little sister is starting to show an interest in boys. However, both Willow (Sarah Roberts) and Mac (Emily Weir) tell him that this is one of the few normal teenage experiences she is having.
Deciding to be supportive of the new development, Colby sees Bella checking out Nikau and suggests that being honest is the best way forward. Bella is mortified at the thought of telling him the truth, but eventually decides to ask him to meet.
When she’s face to face with him, Bella freezes up, and Nikau gets impatient. Suddenly, she blurts out that she likes him, then runs away, leaving Nik confused. Bella flees to Ryder’s house, where Roo (Georgie Parker) is there to talk it through with her.
Meanwhile, Ryder is shocked when Nikau gives him the update about Bella. Ryder suspects the feeling could be mutual when Nik struggles to play it cool as Ryder prepares to reply to Bella’s frantic texts. Arriving home, Ryder decides to bring the two together. Is a new relationship on the horizon, or is Bella about to be heartbroken?
