Aldi is trialling a click and collect service for customers to help them shop online with ease and have groceries delivered straight to their car. At the start of the pandemic, the German retailer teamed up with Deliveroo to help customers get food deliveries within 30 minutes straight to their door. It comes amid a surge in demand for online grocery orders following the coronavirus crisis.

The budget retailer is currently running a trial at one branch in the Midlands where customers can place orders online before collecting from a store.

However, the scheme is said to extend to more stores within weeks to help customers shop easier.Aldi said the trial has seen staff taking part in the trial, in line with social distancing rules.

Customers can choose from a full range of grocery items online and then drive to their local store where they can pick up their shopping completely contact free.

Those who use the new service will be offered specific time slots to arrive at dedicated click and collect points in Aldi car parks where they can pick up their shopping.

Whilst click and collect services are not new and have been around for many years, this is the first time Aldi is rolling out a service like this.

Aldi has been expanding ways to shop since the pandemic since their grocery items and Specialbuys were only ever available in-store.

Customers can currently only click and collect Aldi’s Specialbuys range of non-food items which costs £2.95 to pick up from your local ‘CollectPlus’ location.

Most supermarkets offer free click and collect services with a minimum spend but it is unsure how much Aldi’s service will cost.
