Ariana Grande fans think she threw shade at ex Pete Davidson in new song

Ariana Grande fans are thrilled with the singer’s latest single, “Positions,” where she waxes poetic over a new-found love, assumedly current boyfriend, Dalton Gomez.

However, Many of the superstar’s followers believe the “Thank U, Next” artist also took a dig at ex-boyfriend Pete Davidson, using wordplay to subtly address the “Saturday Night Live” player from whom she split in October 2018.

The lyric in question reads: “Heaven sent you to me, I’m just hoping I don’t repeat history.” Grande’s cadence, however, breaks down the word “repeat” as individual syllables, separating the “re” from the “peat.” Many took this as a reference to “Pete” Davidson, and Grande’s desire to avoid relationships reminiscent of their time together.

“Ariana did not just split repeat to sound like re–PETE hahahah so smart #POSITIONS,” tweeted one fan, while another playfully called the singer a “shady bitch” for the possible slight.

Davidson, 26, proposed to Grande, 27, in 2018 after just a few weeks of dating. The couple split after just five months.

Grande went public with current relationship after appearing with Gomez in the video for her song with Justin Bieber, “Stuck with U.”

The “Positions” video finds the pop star taking on the role of commander-in-chief, strutting through the White House, while also filling other “positions” within her administration.
