Azaylia’s diagnosis

Ex On The Beach star Ashley and his partner Safiyya welcomed baby daughter Azaylia Diamond Cain in August 2020.

Sadly just two months after her birth Azaylia was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukaemia, a type of blood cancer that can affect children and young people of any age.

Ashley and Safiyya stated that doctors had warned them that there was a “high probability she wouldn’t survive past the first round of chemotherapy” because of the “aggressiveness and rareness of the disease combined with her age”.

However, Azaylia battled through multiple rounds of chemotherapy while in hospital.

Ashley and Safiyya wrote at the time: “Three rounds of chemotherapy and a full bone marrow transplant later, she is still fighting.”

The incredible fundraiser

Ashley and Safiyya raised £1.6million after being told that Azaylia could receive “life-changing” treatment in Singapore after relapsing amid her leukaemia battle.

Going over their £1million target, Ashley described the treatment as “the only option to save Azaylia’s life” and that they were preparing to fly out in a matter of days to spend a minimum of one year away from home.

Days later in a heartbreaking video, Ashley stated that Azaylia’s health had taken a turn for the worse and that doctors had given her just “days to live” as her current chemotherapy “was not working”.

"She's one in a trillion, but unfortunately so is her disease," he explained.

Little Azaylia's plight moved the world

Along with the hugely successful fundraising drive, landmarks around the world were lit up to honour the infant and her devoted parents.

From the Blackpool Tower to Newcastle's Millennium Bridge and as far afield as Niagara Falls and Toronto's CN Tower, bright orange lights shone to raise awareness of the rare form of blood cancer Azaylia suffered from.

Her dad Ashley's Let's Go Champ refrain was retweeted and reposted across social media as celebs and fans alike showed solidarity with the family during Azaylia's final weeks.
