Best Valentine's Day flowers - Where to buy cheapest roses and bouquets for 2020

IF roses are red but money is tight, we’ve rounded up the best deals on flowers and bouquets to help you surprise your other half on Valentine’s Day.

We’ve found bunches of roses starting from £2 along with plenty more deals that won’t break the bank.

If you’re after something more fancy, bouquets start from around £25 with delivery – and some include chocolates and cards in that price.

The supermarkets are the cheapest place to go if you’re looking to save some cash, but that doesn’t necessarily mean they’ll last the longest.

The majority of high street retailers sell short-stemmed “sweetheart” roses, while florists tend to sell ones with long stems and bigger heads.

Surprisingly, prices actually drop on Valentine's Day itself as supermarket try to shift surplus stocks.

But if you don’t want to leave it until the big day, then these are your best options based on what's available today.

Do note that more supermarkets will unveil their Valentine’s Day flowers much nearer to February 14.

We also expect prices to fluctuate so make sure you compare deals to get the best value for money.

Tesco, Asda and Lidl don’t have any roses listed on their websites yet.

Where can I get the cheapest bunches of roses?

Aldi is selling 10 roses for £1.99 – the cheapest we've found so far. They're available in a variety of colours including red, orange, yellow, cream and pink. Sadly, you can't order them online so you'll need to visit your nearest Aldi to pick up a bunch.
The next best price we found comes from Sainsbury's, where you can buy 10 roses for £2.50. They also come in different colours, including red, yellow, orange, white, cerise or pink. You can order these roses now on the Sainsbury's website although there is a delivery charge of £1 to £7 and you need to spend at least £25.
Morrisons is selling roses for £6. While it doesn't specifically say on the website how many you get in a bunch, the picture on the product page shows 13 roses which only come in pink and red. This bunch can be ordered on the Morrisons website – but there's a minimum spend of £40 and a delivery charge of between £1.50 and £5.

Prestige Flowers currently has a bouquet of six red roses for £22.99, including a box of truffle chocolates. They also sell nine red roses for £27.99 or a dozen red roses for £32.99. There's also a £5.80 delivery charge for each bouquet. This is the best price for bouquets currently on sale.
M&S roses start from £20 for 12 red flowers, going up to £100 for their luxury bouquet. The good news is delivery is free for flowers if you're ordering online.
The cheapest roses being sold by Waitrose are these 30 mixed pink and red flowers, costing £21. This is the biggest bunch we could find being sold in a supermarket. Keep in mind there's a £4.95 delivery charge per bouquet or plant when ordering from the Waitrose website.
Moonpig is selling 13 roses for £28, including a bar of chocolate. Shoppers will pay £4 for delivery.
If you're after a particularly grand gesture, Aldi will be stocking an incredible 100 roses for £29.99. The bouquet contains an "ombre" of roses, meaning they contain several different shades of reds, pinks and creams. It'll be available in stores on February 12 – we've asked Aldi if shoppers can buy it online.
Alternatively, Lidl's bouquet of 100 roses is £5 cheaper, costing £25 in total. It's released on the same day as Aldi's too, February 12.
Online retailer eFlorists are selling a dozen red roses plus a box of chocolates for £29.99. Remember to factor in a delivery charge of £5.50 per order.

If the flowers you've ordered online arrive in a sorry state, there might be something you can do about it.

Consumer group Which? advises you take the following steps to get a refund:

Take a picture as evidence of poor condition or damage to your flowers as this will help support your complaint.
If a loved one or friend has sent you flowers that have arrived in a poor condition or late, make sure you tell them. Otherwise the retailer may say they can’t access the order information and won’t resolve the problem.
If you order a specific number of flowers but fewer than this amount are delivered to you, you’re entitled to a partial refund for the missing flowers.
