Designer Christian Siriano — who showed off his latest collection for a front row that included Katie Holmes, Kristin Chenoweth, Lil’ Kim and Alicia Silverstone at Gotham Hall this week — says he wanted the in-person show to be “dreamlike and to transplant everyone in the room to another world.”

Siriano — who has dressed A-listers including Ashley Graham, Cardi B, Whoopi Goldberg, Jennifer Lopez and Oprah Winfrey — has observed that people are ready to dress up again amidst the pandemic.

“What I have noticed is the clients, even to go to a birthday party, they are going glam,” he tells us. “My best friend, I just did her wedding. She moved her wedding three times. She was like, ‘Christian, I want my dress to be the most insane magical creation you could do.’ She’s pregnant and I gave her a huge train and she didn’t care.”

Siriano, who designed Billy Porter’s jaw-dropping tuxedo dress for the 2019 Oscars, also says, “We have done gowns for men recently for their weddings. We have a lot of guys who come in and ordered clothes.” Even for the non-gender-fluid, “a great suit is a great suit.”

Siriano has also become known for embracing all body types, sending plus-size models down the runway and dressing Leslie Jones after the “SNL” star said no one wanted to outfit her for her “Ghostbusters” reboot premiere.

“There should be more representation because that’s what the customer is,” he says. “The customer is from all walks of life, and all ages and sizes, and we have to remind everybody that is our job as the designer.”

Siriano, who did two previous shows during the pandemic, told us, “Right in the height of the pandemic we showed last September at my house and it was logistically very hard. I would love to never do that again.”
