Debenhams has revealed that five of it’s stores will not reopen after lockdown, closing permanently. Sadly the shops have been unable to agree on terms with one shopping centre owner, Hammerson.

A Debenhams spokesman said: “We can confirm that despite our best efforts, we have been unable to agree terms with Hammerson on our five stores in its shopping centres, and so they will not be reopening.
“We continue to engage in constructive talks with our landlords and have agreed terms on the vast majority of our stores, which we look forward to reopening when government restrictions allow.
“This is no reflection on the commitment of our colleagues in these stores and we are extremely grateful for their support.”
This further to the 422 jobs lost when seven outlets closed last month.

While some shops are closing, others are planning to reopen, according to reports.
Ikea will open from May 18, according to reports.
However, the company has yet to confirm this.
Such plans would show the firm is expecting current lockdown rules to come to a end within the next few weeks.
