If you ever wanted a peek into the world of the British monarchy, now’s your chance. The Crown is returning to Netflix for its third season within the upcoming months. Even a few members of the Royal Family watch the award-winning series. Here are the royal family members who watch The Crown.
‘The Crown’ has been a popular show since 2016
With awards and global recognition, the Netflix drama The Crown quickly gained popularity. The show earned the thumbs up from the queen herself. According to The Daily Express, Edward and Sophie, the Earl and Countess of Wessex, love The Crown. It was those two who got the Queen involved in the show.
“It has been a longstanding arrangement that they drive to Windsor at the weekend to join the Queen for an informal supper while watching TV or a film,” said one senior royal source. “They have a Netflix account and urged her to watch it with them. Happily, she really liked it, although obviously there were some depictions of events that she found too heavily [dramatized.]”
Even Prince William has been seen chatting over the episodes of The Crown. According to Showbiz Cheat Sheet, actress Alicia Vikander discussed the television series with him during a dinner in 2018.
Meghan Markle is welcome to join the cast of ‘The Crown’
According to Harper’s Bazaar, the show is approaching present-day royalty. With that, the show begs the question of who would portray Meghan Markle, Prince Harry, Kate Middleton, and Prince William. For Meghan Markle’s character, with the Duchess’ previous acting experience, the choice seemed obvious.
“She can play herself,” Suzanne Mackie, creative director of Left Bank, said. Most likely, Meghan Markle will not return to her acting roots. In an interview with BBC, she explained that her new responsibilities and philanthropy work take priority over her acting career.
“I don’t see it as giving anything up,” Meghan Markle said. “I just see it as a change. It’s a new chapter. And keep in mind I’ve been working on my show for seven years. We were very fortunate to have that sort of longevity on a series. For me, once we hit the 100 episode marker, I thought, I have ticked this box and I feel really proud of the work we’ve done there and now it’s time to work as a team with [Harry].”
Season 2 of Netflix’s series ‘The Crown’ premiered in 2017
The first season of The Crown premiered on Netflix in 2016. The second season premiered in 2017. After its premiere, the series won the Golden Globe Award for “Best Television Series – Drama.”
The first two seasons told the story of older members in the royal family, including Queen Elizabeth II, portrayed by Claire Foy. Matt Smith portrayed Philip, Duke of Edinburgh. It is not exactly clear which members of the royal family will be featured in the third season of the show.
There is no release date of the third season of The Crown. Not yet, anyway. According to Deadline, the series will return to Netflix during the second half of 2019. The Crown season 3 will debut sometime after July 1, 2019.
