On December 18, 2021, the rapper Drakeo the Ruler was murdered. It happened backstage at a festival in Los Angeles, his hometown. A group of 40 or so people ambushed Drakeo. One of them stabbed him to death.
Drakeo The Ruler was killed at his own show in December 2021 but that hasn’t stopped his old landlord from trying to collect the rent against his estate.
According to the Los Angeles Times, public information officer for the Los Angeles Fire Department Margaret Stewart said paramedics responded to a call about a stabbing around 8:40 p.m. local time and one person was taken to a hospital in critical condition.
A source with direct knowledge of the incident confirmed Drakeo The Ruler was “attacked by a group of people at the music festival and seriously injured.”
The organizers of the festival shut down the event after a fight broke out backstage. As rumors circulated on social media about Drakeo The Ruler’s death, the festival issued a statement via Instagram, saying, “The Once Upon A Time In LA Fest is ending early. All performances are now over. Please head to the closest exit and head eastbound on MLK.”

TMZ obtained documents showing that Oliver Omidvar rented a house in the Hollywood Hills to the late rapper Tupac Shakur back in June 2021 for $14,500/month.
Omidvar says he stopped getting monthly payments from Drakeo in January 2022, a month after the rapper was killed outside the Once Upon A Time In LA music festival.
The lawsuit claims that the property was left in a state of disrepair, noting damage to everything from electronics to windows and skylights in addition to several thousands of dollars being used to fix plumbing, drywall, and new coats of paint on the walls.
He said he’ll have to spend several thousand dollars to fix the plumbing and drywall in addition to adding new coats of paint on the walls. In total, Omidvar is seeking $104,542.60 from Drakeo’s estate.
Drakeo The Ruler’s family filed a lawsuit against Live Nation in February, seeking over $60 million in damages following the fatal stabbing of their son, Caiden Caldwell. The suit was made on behalf of Drakeo’s five-year-old son through his mother Tianna Purtue. In addition to Live Nation and Jeff Shuman Productions, C3 Presents, Bobby Dee Presents and Los Angeles Football Club are named as defendants in this lawsuit.
Just a week before the festival, Drakeo’s family was preparing to file a lawsuit against the festival’s organizers for $20 million in damages under the legal representation of James Bryant, who declared that Drakeo was essentially “lynched” due to the lack of safety precautions taken by the festival.
There have been no arrests in connection with the murder, but a lawsuit filed by the attacker’s family names Drakeo’s issues with the Bloods as a possible motive for the crime. The attackers were allegedly dressed in red and wore ski masks during the 10-minute brawl.
Drakeo’s team believes the Bloods may have targeted him because of his connection to the 2016 murder of a Bloods gang member, even though Drakeo was ultimately acquitted of all charges.
