Drug dealer who stabbed policeman trying to arrest him is jailed for 16 years

A drug dealer who stabbed a police officer has been jailed for 16 years.

Michael Enzanga, 20, from north London, knifed Hampshire Police officer Russell Turner as he tried to apprehend him in Portsmouth in February.

Enzanga was likened to a "caged animal fighting for his life" as he repeatedly knifed PC Turner.

The police officer returned to work 10 weeks after the attack but has since left the force, the court was told.

PC Turner in his victim statement says he had a mixture of 'refusal to accept I've been stabbed and one of disbelief' when he was attacked.

Enzanga, of no fixed abode, was found guilty of causing grievous bodily harm with intent and drug offences following a two-week trial.

The jury took just 45 minutes to find him guilty of plunging a knife into the back of PC Turner, in Stamshaw Park on 21 February.

He was also found guilty of possession of a bladed article and four counts of possession of Class A drugs with intent and possession of criminal property.
