Emma, 25, who played Princess Diana in the hit Netflix drama but failed to pick up a gong at last night’s red carpet event in London, completed the custom outfit by Miu Miu with eye-catching black nails.
But while the look definitely made a statement, social media users were quick to poke fun at it, comparing the British actress’ bizarre number to the costumes worn in The Handmaid’s Tale and to Olympic swimmers.

Another said: ‘Emma Corrin looks uncannily like The Handmaid’s Tale with their pale yellow bonnet at Emmy Awards.’

Emma, who changed her pronouns to she/they on her Instagram bio earlier this year, donned a pale yellow bonnet and matching floor-length dress from Miu Miu for the red carpet event.
Completing her attire with long fingerless gloves, Emma slicked her hair away from her face so that the headpiece could sit effortlessly, while opting for a glamorous makeup look.
Taking to Instagram to share some shots of her Emmy’s gown, Emma wrote: ‘crucible realness for EMMYS 2021’.

As such, it seems the actress decided to channel Winona Rider’s character Abigail Williams from the 1996 drama The Crucible on Sunday.
The film is a dramatized story of the Salem witch trials and follows married man John Proctor (Daniel Day-Lewis) breaking off his affair with his young lover, Abigail Williams (Winona).
Winona’s character leads other girls in a rite to wish death upon his wife, Elizabeth (Joan Allen). When the ritual is discovered, the girls are brought to trial.

Emma has addressed her decision to publicly request her pronouns be she/they, explaining it was important to put her ‘authentic’ self out there.
Speaking with W magazine, Emma said: ‘It’s hard when you have a platform, but I want to make everything feel very authentic.
‘I think we’ve become much more aware of our positions in our communities and the circles in which we operate.’
