Hugh Grant is related to fellow Love Actually star in real life – and they found out on set

It's that time of year where we fire up Love Actually and get the Christmas drinks on the go.

The feel good film has an A list cast and it has been a total Christmas classic since its 2003 release.

So you'd think by now we'd know all there is to know about the iconic film? Well, perhaps not, as two of the lead stars are actually related in real life.

Thomas Brodie-Sangster, who plays the role of Sam in the film, has gone on to do do big things in the acting world.

His most recent gig came as he starred in The Queen's Gambit as Benny Watts.

And he's followed in the footsteps of his Love Actually relation Hugh Grant where acting is concerned.

Yes, the two are related, and are second cousins once removed, according to IMDB.

According to the outlet: "Grant's maternal grandmother, Margaret Isabel Randolph, was the sister of Brodie-Sangster's maternal great-grandmother, Barbara May Randolph."

And it turns out Thomas knew Hugh was related to him while filming, and previously told the Times of India: "He didn't know. I said, 'Apparently, you are my uncle or my cousin or something.' Then he kind of remembered my mum and uncle. So for the rest of the shoot, he went round saying: 'Hello cousin.' That felt quite cool."

Thomas has also starred as Jojen Reed in HBO's Game of Thrones, and he played Newt in the Maze Runner film franchise.

And he's previously opened up on his acting career while on This Morning.

The now 31 year old shared: "It's a strange life to lead as a young person, it was a life I loved, a life of adventure, and I kept somewhat grounded and relied on my friends and family.

"I'm still riding the wave."

Hugh Grant played the recently elected Prime Minister, David, in the film, and he has since starred in Bridget Jones The Edge of Reason along with the Paddington films where he played Phoenix Buchanan.

The Notting Hill actor has five children including daughter, Tabitha, 10, and Felix, eight, with ex Tinglan Hong, along with nine year old son John Mungo Grant with his now wife Anna Elisabet Eberstein.

Hugh and Anna welcomed a daughter in December 2015, whose name remains unknown, along with a second daughter in March 2018 before they tied the knot in May of the same year.
