DEAR DEIDRE: Before we came to you for help, I thought we’d have to give up on sex for good. 

I wrote to you after my partner was diagnosed with her fifth UTI in three months.

It seemed that every time we had sex, she’d end up with an infection. 

She’s 55, I’m 64. 

Our GP had prescribed antibiotics, but we didn’t have an answer as to why this kept happening. 

Because she’s post-menopausal, you suggested she drink more water to help flush any bacteria out. 

Also, because it had been six years since she’d last been intimate with someone, you explained infections may occur initially, but should then start to clear up.

It’s important to drink lots of fluids which will help flush out any bacteria.
