Just months before her own arrest, “Real Housewives of Salt Lake City” star Jen Shah ironically compared herself to convicted felon and fellow “Housewife” Teresa Giudice.
In a September 2020 tweet, Shah responded to a photo of herself getting angry during a group lunch, not unlike Giudice’s infamous table-flipping scene in the early days of “Real Housewives of New Jersey.”
“Teresa walked, so I could run,” she joked at the time.
On Tuesday, Shah, 47, and her assistant Stuart Smith, 43, were arrested for allegedly ripping off hundreds of victims in a telemarketing scheme. They were charged with conspiracy to commit wire fraud and conspiracy to commit money laundering.
They could face up to 30 years in prison, according to the court docs.
“Shah and Smith flaunted their lavish lifestyle to the public as a symbol of their ‘success,’” Homeland Security Investigations Special Agent-in-Charge Peter Fitzhugh said in a statement regarding their arrest. “In reality, they allegedly built their opulent lifestyle at the expense of vulnerable, often elderly, working-class people.”
According to the indictment, the pair sold fake business services, including tax preparation, coaching sessions and website design services, to people, many of whom were over the age of 55.
They’re expected to appear before a judge on Tuesday afternoon. A rep for Shah declined to comment on the arrest.
Ahead of her arrest, Shah gushed to Page Six about being involved in an “entrepreneur program” that was focused on helping women amid the coronavirus pandemic.
“You’ll see some of that coming out and hearing their stories and seeing how we help their businesses grow,” she boasted in January.
Meanwhile, Giudice, 48, was sentenced to 15 months in prison on fraud charges in 2014. She served just under a year of time at a federal prison in Danbury, Conn. and her now ex-husband, Joe Giudice, served 41-months for his fraud-related crimes.
