Lana Del Rey has found herself in hot water with some fellow musicians for the second time in as many weeks, this time for posting footage of looters during the Los Angeles protests.
Del Rey, 34, posted a video of a protester standing atop a burned-out car and another of looters lifting merchandise from damaged stores. (The second video has since been deleted.) She also disabled the comments on these clips.
Kehlani called out Del Rey in a tweet, writing, “please remove your instagram post it’s dangerous as f–k and a very poor choice of moments to post. by all means protest, but DO NOT endanger people with your very massive platform. oh and turn your f–kin comments on man.”
Tinashe took a slightly more direct route, writing: “Why the f–k are you posting people looting stores on your page literally WHAT IS YOUR PROBLEM.”
It appears both tweets have been deleted, but Tinashe has since thanked Del Ray for taking down the videos.
The “Young and Beautiful” singer has since posted another seemingly political post: A screenshot of an Associated Press article which reports that George Floyd, and the officer involved in his death, Derek Chauvin, occasionally both worked at the same Minneapolis nightclub, and that Chauvin “was aggressive on nights that drew a mainly black clientele.”
Del Rey came under fire in May for another Instagram post, which slammed Kehlani — along with Doja Cat, Ariana Grande, Camila Cabello, Cardi B, Nicki Minaj and Beyoncé — for having “number ones with songs about being sexy, wearing no clothes, f–king, cheating, etc,” while Del Rey was “crucified” for “glamorizing abuse.”
