Make the most of World Book Day with bargains to get your kids reading — plus win £50,000 in our raffle – The Sun

IT’S World Book Day tomorrow – but encouraging children to read seems to be getting harder than ever.

Our kids are more disinterested in picking up a book than any generation before them, with just a quarter doing so each day, research shows.

If this issue is proving a tad tricky for you, check out these bargain ways to turn children into bookworms in no time . . .

TAKE A TOKEN: McDonald’s is offering free book tokens in Happy Meals. Either swap them for one of the 12 World Book Day books or use them for £1-a-book offers at supermarkets. Check your preferred supermarket is participating, though.

QUIDS IN: Many shops have special offers for World Book Day. Waterstones has a £1 book sale, including on Kid Normal by Greg James. The book is currently listed for £5.56 on Amazon, so you can save yourself a pretty penny or two.

SAVE: £4.56

SWAP NOT SHOP: A cheap way to experience new books is to swap with people you know. See if your children’s friends have some books they are finished with, then you can organise a swap shop.

SUPERMARKET SAVINGS: Budget supermarkets Lidl and Aldi are getting involved in World Book Day, too. You can get the classic tale of Alice’s Adventures In Wonderland, by Lewis Carroll, for just £1.99 in Lidl, reduced from £6.99.

SAVE: £5

WORKIN’ IT: Bulk up with a box set of your child’s favourite author. The Works is selling a David Walliams five-book set for £18, down from £34.95 — and get free standard delivery on your order.

SAVE: £16.95

NEW READS: Using your local library to sample new books is a great idea. Most libraries offer you the chance to request a book you’d like to read if they don’t already have it. That way you’ll get to read the book without actually forking out for it.
