- Michelle Green, from Blackpool, has asthma, lung disease and heart disease
- Is exempt from wearing a mask but heard people talking in Poundstretcher
- Corey Wood, from Wolverhampton, has Aspergers and was confronted by bus driver
- They both appeared on This Morning to talk abut abuse for not wearing a mask
A woman and man who are exempt from wearing masks amid Covid-19 due to differing medical conditions have revealed the abuse they’ve received from members of the public.
Appearing on This Morning today, Michelle Green, from Blackpool, and Corey Wood, from Wolverhampton, told how they both frantically received disgusting attacks from members of the public – despite the fact they’re medically exempt from wearing a mask.
‘I was delivering some vital supplies for my organisation Dimensions, explained Cory, who has Asperger syndrome, speaking to presenters Rochelle Humes and Dermot O’Leary. ‘Basically I got on a bus to do that delivery and the bus driver confronted me very angrily and said, “where is your mask?”
‘I tried to explain to him I wasn’t wearing a mask because I’m classed as disabled, so I am exempt from it after following official government guidelines.

‘He wasn’t accepting that, he wasn’t happy because he ignored my explanation over and over again.
‘Even worse, he then started to invite members of the public into the discussion and tried to get them to gang up on me almost. It was a very unpleasant and horrific experience.
‘My condition is Asperger’s, which is part of the autistic spectrum. A common trait among everyone on the autistic spectrum is various levels of sensory difficulties.
‘I have to wear very specific types of clothes, I can’t wear any types of accessories like watches, or anything like that. As you can imagine, wearing a mask was very very difficult for me.’
Michelle also received unwanted abuse while she was out shopping with her son in Poundstretcher.
‘I was actually out shopping with my little boy in Poundstretcher,’ explained Michelle, ‘He has autism spectrum disorder and goes through loads of phone charging wires, so we were getting a new wire for him.
Michelle told presenters Rochelle Humes and Dermot O’Leary that a man told her she was ‘illegal and breaking the law’ by not wearing a mask – despite being exempt due to her medical conditions (pictured)

‘There was a couple behind me and I heard the woman whispering. I couldn’t exactly hear what she was saying, but she was gesturing towards me.
‘A bit later on I said to my little boy, “there’s naughty people like that who shouldn’t be talking about people and being rude about them.
The man heard me and started giving me loads of abuse telling me I was illegal, breaking the law and I have to wear a mask. ‘
Speaking of why she’s exempt, Michelle explained: ‘I have asthma, lung disease and heart disease as well. I struggle, especially when it’s hot weather – it makes it particularly hard to wear a mask.
She continued: ‘With my son having additional needs, it’s distressing for him.’
