A photo capturing a married couple communicating through a window has tugged at people's heartstrings.
The elderly man's gesture attracted hundreds of comments after a passer-by overheard him singing to his wife through the glass and shared the moment online.
The incredible moment went viral after a heartwarming photo of it was shared online by Paul, in Birmingham.
Captioned: 'Just walked past nursing home and he's singing to his wife through the window', the sweet snap was retweeted more than 4,000 times on Twitter.
In another comment, the photographer added: "It was a joy to hear him singing, I felt rude taking his photo but it touched me. couldn't help myself."
Since being shared on social media, the photo has attracted thousands of comments, with many people sharing the image.
GMB presenter Piers Morgan shared the image with a single crying emoji.
One person tweeted: "My heart feels heavy seeing this but it’s also heartwarming."
Another added: "This is heartbreaking. People need more awareness about how covid is affecting people's lives.
"Society needs to heed the advice so that the virus can remain under control and allow vital visits and hospital treatments etc to continue."
LBC presenter Ben Kentish posted: "There’s this, and there’s the young people on my timeline hosting house parties. And they are linked."
Many others with close relatives in close homes shared their anguish at not being able to see their family member.
One woman tweeted: "I have been separated from my 89 year old mum with dementia since 12th March when the home went into lockdown, she has all but forgotten who we are (we used to see her every day).
"It’s the single, hardest thing my family and I have endured with no end in sight. Heartbreaking."
On Good Morning Britain today, Dr Hilary Jones said the UK needed to follow the strict coronavirus rules in order to avoid a second wave.
A further 3,330 positive cases were announced yesterday, marking the third consecutive day in which the number of new infections has been over 3,000.
Speaking on the show on Monday, Dr Hilary warned: "We've seen a rise in cases, over 3,000 again three days on the trot.
"We're seeing an increase in hospitalisations, there's nine deaths throughout the UK. That may not sound much now, but when you see a rise in cases inevitably you will see more hospitalisations.
"We're also seeing a rise in the number of cases in care homes, which is really worrying.
"These are the people who are most vulnerable, and there's been about 1,000 cases in care homes around the country.
"We need to get a grip on this, and make sure people do understand why social distancing is so important and that the rule of six is easy to understand."
